Justice brothers save the day again.
I decided to "fix" my stripped out fitting on my carb (where the inline filter goes and the gas line connects) with a little JB Weld. So far it looks like it's done the trick. I hope so cuz I sure didn't want to throw away a carb I just had rebuilt.

The helicoil stripped out. I didn't realize it had been helicoiled until the threads came out of it. The self-tapping fitting was a nightmare, so JB weld was the only thing between that carb and a garbage can.

That stuff does wonders! I second the suggestion of keeping a fire extinguisher in the cab... just in case.

Did you ditch the filter, or is it permanently sealed in there?

I ditched it and installed one right before it enters the carb.

hey it could work. I had an experience using JB weld on a motor cycle gas tank on a pin hole from rust and I had painted the tank and put decals on it and the tank looked real cool for a custom garage paint job, well threw time the boy was getting bad grades in school. his option was to improve grades or I would sell the bike. the very day this guy come to pick up the bike from buying it from me, yep the dang JB weld started leaking. but he took it anyways and went on his way. (the JB weld held for a good 9 months on a dirt bike)

Don't worry about it. I've done several this way with no problems for as long as I owned them.
As suggested.....keep an occasional eye on it. |

I'll definitely keep an eye on it. The fitting would thread in, just wouldn't seal, so I coated the threads screwed it in all the way then filled the gap between the carb and fitting.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
