Need help decoding GMC VIN - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Today I stopped and looked out a house that just went up for sale. I wasn't too interested in the house but there is a bone stock original '55 Chevy Bel Air that's been sitting under the carport for years and the house sale was my excuse to stop and look. Well, being nosey about any and all old cars and trucks I got to walking around and discovered what's left of 4 67-72 Chevy and GMC trucks.

There's not enough left of the GMC to even tell what year model it is except for the VIN. The other thing about it that caught my eye is it looks like an original 4x4. The motor is missing but the 4-speed transmission, bellhouse, transfer case, both shifters, front axle etc are all still there.

I wondered if the VIN coded for the 4x4 and also wanted to know what year it is?

I guess it's somewhat dificult to decode with out the code.

I'll asume that the 5th digit is supposed to be a D, and not a 0.
If that is the case, it is a VIN of a 69 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive fleet side truck built in canada with a v8 engine.
C 2 wheel drive
E v-8 motor
10 1/2 ton
D fleet side pick up (no 0 or O code given, I assume it was a D)
1 assembled in Oshawa Ontario Canada
A year 1969
19787th built in 69 at that plant.

I should have know it was a 2 wheel drive based on the C. It's interesting to think about the amount of effort someone went to converting it to 4 wheel drive only to have it rusting to pieces in someone's yard.

BTW, I went to your web site. Bummer about your first '70 Longhorn. I figure about the time I get my '70 running again after $10,000 worth of work and untold hours of labor the same thing will happen to me.

after pouring 10K into a truck, i would hope you'd have full coverage. Mine was a beater. A nice beater, but a 300,000 mile old beater none the less.
Besides, what kind of idiot delivers pizzas in his classic truck?

Its probably CE10D yadayada 69 gmc

The 1 is 1/2 ton 2wd and OD is for the box.

Yeah, I don't think I'll be delivering pizzas in it but it'll get driven alot and hotrodded not a little.

Have any suggestions for a classic truck full coverage provider?
