Can you lock up your brakes?
Yep that's right I locked up my brakes on my Blazer today!
I installed a new brake booster from a 1971-1972 3/4 ton and man I can not believe what a difference the new booster made. I got the booster from Napa Auto parts and it cost me $113. This has got to be the best performance boost that we can get on our Blazers for just over $100. I just unbolted the old and bolted on the new. It sticks a little further out than the old one since it has a larger canister but that is it. I was a little concerned that because the push rod was quite a bit shorter on the new booster, but the parts store was closed so I thought what the heck. I installed it anyway and fired her up. Works like a Charm!

Your old booster was probably shot and I suspect a 1/2 ton booster would have given you the same result. Now I have to do the same thing as my brakes couldn't lock up a go cart tire!!

My 1/2 ton booster is brand new and I can't do it, gonna do the 3/4 ton swap
as soon as I can get a few other things fixed on the list, it's always something.

I had new pads.... new rear drums... and a new 1/2 ton booster replaced and i can lock them up. The prob. w/ the old one was my back breaks were so shot for so long, and locking up just about no matter what... that the pads were pushed to far out and we couldnt bleed them anymore...... anyways i have the new booster now (w/ front discs) and it can lock them up fine, if i want to....
Luv maybe its cuz i only have 31's and you have what... something a little bigger heh |

I have had my blazer 24yrs and It would lock up 14's with a lift when I first got with the 1/2 ton booster. But not know it has faded. Time for a new booster. I will do the 3/4ton swap but I used to lock them up just to hear them all squall

One other change I forgot to mention is the metal support that bolts onto the front of the booster and master cylinder no longer fits since the 3/4 ton booster is deeper. I didn't think it would hurt to leave it off. Idrove it again today and still can't belive the difference....

I think my 71 blazer breaks WAY better then a 2002 Durango SXT i also drive... man that thins ABS is so fuct up is dangerous. The worst pulsing i've ever felt... either locking up, or not breaking at all..... i feel WAY better stopping the blazer!?!?!?!!

Any of youse guys replacing boosters, stock or heavier, needs to check your rear wheel pistons after a week or so. I blew both my rear wheel pistons after a stock booster install a couple years ago. The additional pressure from the rebuilt booster was too much for the old wheel pistons.
