Question Hey Guys, Got A Question

How do you adjust the detent cable, when I looked at mine it looks
like the carb throttle thingamadohitchy has to move around 3/4 of
a inch before making contact with the end of the eyelet, I drove it
about 18 miles to day and everytime I stomped it it wouldn't drop
down a gear, it just kinda slowly accelerated, should the eyelet be
against the pin in the park, engine off position, pic to follow soon.

That's your tranny kick down cable.
When you get on the throttle it should drop a gear for better acceleration.
Shouldn't have anything to do with the gear you start out in.

Unless of course it's messed up or adjusted wrong...

That's what I'm asking, should it look like that in park, w/ the engine off,
or should the eyelet be all the way to the left? (No gap in there like now)

it's been a while but i think it should just make contact when the secondaries start to open. Im could be all wet. But hey i live in oregon i'm used to it.

Usally to adjust it takes a little tinkering with to get it to kick down when you want it to. There should be a bracket on the back of the intake manifold where the detent cable goes through. The part on the cable that you are looking for should be square where it goes through the bracket. If you look at it you will see where you can pull on side of it up, kind of like "unlocking" it. That is where you adjust it. With the engine off, you have to open and close the throttle a few times to get the end of the detent cable to make contact with the carb linkage pretty much when the carb is wide open. Like I said, you may have to play with it, you may want it to kick down a little before wide open, depends on how you drive. Adjust it, then drive it and see how it works for you.

just like he said above but when adjust full throttle then close the detent thats the adjustment

I agree with the last two posts. Thats how I adjusted mine. The adjustment procedure is described nicely in the original assembly manual. Takes only a few minutes to do.

VTBlazer -

You say that one should be able to kick down a gear no matter what gear you are in? I have the TH350, and with the detent "adjusted" it will kick down from 3rd to 2nd, but I've never had it go from 2nd to 1st. Do I have more adjusting to do?

Never said that at all, recheck the post.
The intent is to get you in a better gear ratio more suited to acceleration.

Does it bog down.....if so it could be a vacuum advance problem.
maybe...I would check that out as well.
