Talking gear selector adjustment

howdy do
I'm trying to get the gear selector to be where its supposed to be ( park in park . drive in drive etc) (park-N-D-L2-L1 )
now ive adjusted the arm from the trans but i can not for the life of me get the shift indicator to be where its supposed to be. i did get it to lock ,you know when you put it in park and then you have to pull the lever to you then move down into a gear. got that working good but can not get the indicator
to the right spot any ideas. please

You'll know if you have it adjusted properly if it locks into park, AND you can shift between N and D without pulling back on the shifter lever. You should NOT be able to shift left from N to R or right from D to L2 without pulling backing on the shift lever. It's a tedious process to get it just right. You have to make extremely small adjustments a little at a time.

If your shifter linkage is worn excessively, it will be difficult to get the indicator to line up exactly right.
