i did mine totally custom... i put a chevelle axle in the rear of my truck, and as it so happens, rear disc from a 93-97 camaro bolted right up...

one thing you may want to consider is changing your proportioning valve if you switch to rear disc... you need to up the pressure back there if you are running rear disc. check out http://www.inlinetube.com/

a friend of mine bought the axle to put in a tubbed v-8 s10 project b/c the bolt patterns would be the same. he set the axle up for the strip, w/ a new posi unit and new gears 4.88's... then, he lost interest in the project... sold me the axle for $125... a deal that is tough to pass up! that's why i decided to go with it... not to mention, the axle is probably 50-75# lighter than the 12 bolt that was in it! ...I ran into the camaro brakes after research rear disc options for a chevelle.

so do you think that the 93-97 camaro rear disc stuff would bolt on to the 73-87 rear ends?

what about the bracket that the caliper bolts to?

If I where to spend that much $$$, I would go with SSBC’s. Their $30-40 cheaper in price and equal or better quality. The PST kit for the “Chevrolet/GMC 1/2 Ton 2 or 4 WD 1973-99” doesn’t list brake pads, which I’m sure they are included. I’m not knocking PST, I just never hear of anyone on the board use them yet. Or you could go with CPP which has a conversation kit starting at $499.00. I don’t think they throw in pads but everything else including a Diff gasket.

What ever you decide, I would look at it this way. You don’t want this type of mod to fail and ruin your investment, hurt you or someone. Can’t cut any corners, but you new that right?! Beside the kit price, you may have to upgrade the booster as well. Start saven up!

i have disks on back also but i kinda cheated i used a ford nine inch from a lincoln that had disk already same bolt pattern that it was dificult due to the fact i cut the brackets off the chevy and welded them to the ford it was a succesful direct bolt in (thank god) the only thing is i dont have them working yet b/c i cant drive it right know and didnt see any point of spending the money for the adjustable valve until i can drive it

I use PST exclusively on all of my trucks for body/suspension bushings.

I know I have posted this several times, but... TSM (The Streetrod Manufactoring company) makes kits for several Chevy rearends 1/2T and 3/4T, 5 and 6 lug:

they got a good price on there kits...just $289 ...but, they dont give ya the calipers, and they want $300 for the calipers with the parking brakes

just seems like to me, you should be able to buy the brackets, and use the calipers from another year, and the rotors from some other year as well, and wa-llah....it should work

For 8-lug FF 3/4-ton rear discs check out what the rockcrawler guys are using. There's caliper brackets for sale all over ebay and some guys on Pirate4x4 and ColoradoK5 sell them. Everything else is off-the-shelf parts. The 14-bolt rear discs are probably the easiest setup available, IMO. If you have a semi-float 14-bolt I don't know what you would use....

As for the 5-lug 12-bolt, I was looking at a kit from Speedway Motors. It doesn't have brake lines and the brackets are weld-on, but it's relatively cheap compared to the others out there. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp...qx/Product.htm

A couple of years ago, I talked to the owner running TSM and asked him about the 73-87 rear disc brake kit. If I remember correctly, he told me that they make the brackets, but use the rotors from 88+ trucks by redrilling them for the 5 on 5 pattern. They use calipers and pads from the cadillac. I asked him about having to upgrade the stock master cylinder to a disc-disc master cylinder as some of the other brake companies recommend. He said that it is really not necessary. He said, at the time, they had a contract with a large delivery company and had installed the brake kits on the company's delivery trucks/vans. He said the company never had problems with their kit. But, he also said the company was in the process of upgrading their fleet with the newer vehicles that come stock with rear disc brakes.
