What did you get done?

I was on call this weekend so I spent most of Saturday running around town. I did get some work done in my yrad though. We have had so much rain that everything is growing like mad. Unfortunately the weeds are still growing faster than the plants. I spent Saturday morning trimmimg shrubs and pulling weeds. Now my front yrad looks respectable again.

Sunday I got up early and started on my back yard. Due to the rain and being out of town I haven't mowed my back yard in three weeks. Yikes It was a freakin jungle back there. I spent an hour and a half with the weed eater trying to get things under control. Then I spent another hour and a half on the mower. I mowed, and mowed, and mowed and it still needs mowed some more

I finally gave up when a buddy showed up and we fired up the grill.

What did you get done..........?

I actually have progress to report this week. I got my Lokar throttle and kickdown cables, and got my radiator back from the radiator shop. I finally got my A/C box smoothed and painted, so I installed it and set the radiator support back on. Now I can finally start putting everything back together.

spent all night (literally) on Thursday finishing my derby truck, only to run out of wire at 3am. finished the welding on Friday, brought it closer to home, and stopped at a Meijer parking lot for a little test and tune. fortunately no cops showed up. brought it home, and took care of some odds and ends, finished it up early yesterday afternoon. loaded it up and headed for the gas station. one of the chains shifted and the truck fell off the passenger side of the trailer. got it back on, continued to the gas station, and filled up, no more problems from there on out. got to the track and got it all unloaded, going through tech inspection they told me that my crush bar was too well built. WTF? something in place solely for my safety is TOO STRONG? i dont think so! argued it a bit with the inspectors, about the fact that we've always built crush bars like this, and it has never been an issue before. not only that, but all 7 trucks competing were built identical. so they let us run them. derby went great, i finished one spot out of the money, but had a good time, and tore the truck up pretty good. of the 6 other trucks that ran, 5 of the guys were friends of mine, and the other truck was a friend of theirs. ended up being a pretty good time, and we put on an excellent show. the crowd definitely loved it. went back to back with one of my best friends in his '65 F250, we both misjudged the hit just a little, and ended up butting frame rails at full speed. surprise surprise, the Chev ended up with a slight tear about 2" deep to the rear frame rail, and the Ford lost a rear spring shackle mount off the frame. brought it home last night and inspected it, the frame is still arrow straight, needs a front clip and a passenger door of which i have both. bed looks like it could still be straightened, but i may just replace it as the passenger side is messed up pretty good. pics will come tomorrow.

Today (Sunday) I got my engine back in the frame finally, very pleased with that! Afterwards I went to my painters house to arrange a time to get my bed in for bodywork and paint, only to find out his shop burned down last week! I am sure glad nothing of mine was in there, but really bummed this happened, not only for myself, but for him too. Now I have to try to find another painter or wait until he gets his shop rebuilt...and I have nfc on which I will/should do. After all this, I tried for the second time to get these laserdisc converted to DVD...but not all went the way I had hoped. We (my cousin and I) did manage to get one recorded, but the pixel ratio was messed up, the video was "jumpy", and the sound wasn't the best. We tried to get it all dialed in, but never were able to get it any better. I now need to proceed to step 3, which is to try and get a co-worker of mine to give it a whirl. He is excellent at this kind of stuff, so hpefully he can assist.

not chevy truck related, but i spent probably 4-6 hours cleaning my dads dodge, first time in about 2-3 years, and trust me it still needs another hour or two, and that was just with it soaped, rinsed, and spot free rinsed, no wax

I finally got my component speakers installed in the door and got all the amps hooked up. Just need to cut and carpet 2 more filler panels and the system will be complete.

I dug a 5 x 5 x 3' deep hole and made a pond. Got a few fishies and some plants and all seemed to go well. Then I was backfilling the pond liner with stone and my Saint Bernard (who is a klutz) knocked a whole wheelbarrow of modified stone into the fresh pond.....so I had to do an emergency evacuation (of the pond) and start ALL over again. Damn dog screwed me...I don't think I ever saw water that black!!!

Drained and pulled out my leaking gas tank. (My wife is happy that the smell of gas doesn't come in the windows of the house any more.) Figured out that the "too good to be true" deal I got on a used tank was in fact to good to be true. Now, there's nothing wrong with the tank, it's really in great shape. But in a complete lapse of brains I didn't remember that there are 2 sizes of gas tanks. Yup, you guessed it, the replacement tank is a 20 gallon and my truck is a short bed with a 16 gallon. Doh!!!

Finally finished with the 12 bolt for the Chevelle. Just need to clean it and get it painted. Mowed my father-in-laws yard and he gave me enough tomatoes to go with the ones I grew to can 14 quarts. They'll really be good on a cold January day.

sat i went garage sellin.... got a swivel, rocker, recliner for $10.. could of had 2. matching pair but wasnt sure i had the room.. as we dont have the house yet... got an almost brand new comp desk for $30, as well as a few other misc stuff... mostly for the kiddo, as usual...

sun i worked 14hrs.. 2 of which i spent waiting on a phone repair guy to come fix the phone system.. after repeated calls to the phone company and waiting 2 hrs, i started fiddling with the equipment, pulling out large comp chips, flipping switches and it started working.. called the phone company back and told them to cancel the work order i fiddled with their equipment and got it working... then all heck broke loose as everyone started ordering.. actually made for a fun night... if i am gonna stay late i would rather be busting my butt working than sitting around waiting for a phone guy that never shows... would have been really pissed if i had to pay $100+ an hour for him to flip a switch though...

Friday morning (4:30am) Jamie and I started out to Orlando, FL to pick up a 292 I6 from bigunde. I arrived at 4:45pm. We dropped it on the truck and headed back home. At 2:30am I couldn't drive any longer and we pulled over at the rest area an hour and a half from home and I crashed. Woke up at 6am and arrived home at 7:30 only to crash again. Woke up Sunday afternoon at 1:36pm and went to a birthday party... TIRED.

All that for a 292 Chris?? I think you just wanted to take a road trip in a 73-87 and this was your excuse.

Crazy huh? About 6 hours into it I thought, what am I doing! Jamie was at that point closer to about 4 hours.

I did find a few things on the shake down. Apparently the pump in the passenger side tank gave out on the way back, the cruise control doesn't work, and the spring on the throttle was STIFF!!!, plus I have a code 32 now. Other than that, it was pretty smooth.

Blew $120 to get my car 'fixed' at CarX saturday only to find out they didn't fix what I asked them to because they 'decided it was something different' that was wrong and it was worse than ever when I got it back so needless to say I'm not gonna be giving them anymore business. Sunday I got rid of the last of my 73 truck and was going to go look at a 68 panel on my way to my cousins 'goin away to college' part but my ride left before I was done so I was S.O.L. Maybe I'll go look at it this week sometime...
