Have you used "Extend" rust product.

The POR equivalent NAPA has is called Extend. I believe Plasticoat has a similar product also. Extend sprays clear and turns the rust black in about 24 hrs. It dries smooth and you can paint over in 24 hrs. Is this what POR works like? I'm impressed with Extend so far, and it sure beats muriatic acid! I am curious to see how long the effects last. Illinois winter road salt is "the premier" rust test. Anyone else use it?

I have extend in my cabinet,i prefer the brush on in easy to reach places for better coverage, and hard to get places i use the spray stuff,if in the inside of a door or something, then ill paint some black hammerite over it for a good coating

What does this stuff cost?
While I have not used alot of NAPA's products, so far, I have been rather impressed.

spray cans cost about 2.50 per can. I did all 4 control arms and the spindles with those, and then some spots up front. Whats Hammerite?

hanssolo, POR-15 does not work like Extend. POR-15 is a coating that is applied over a rusted surface to encapsulate the rust but not chemically change it. Extend chemically changes the rust, similar to Navel Jelly, which means it must be coated to prevent future rust. Also, Extend is not a NAPA product. It is made by Loctite and sold under the Permatex and Duro brand name (both owned by Loctite.

Check out this site for a comparison of products that chemically change rust:

Since Extend is made by Loctite and sold under both the Duro and Permatex brand names, does this mean that Extend is not always called "Extend"? Any other names for the same stuff?
Also, since it has to be top-coated, could I use it under the cab and then spray on some undercoating?
Thanks

I don't think it HAS to be painted over, but most will do it anyway. It can only protect more. I believe undercoating over it would last a very long time. JMO.

I have used Extend a lot. I call it my garage in a bottle. LOL Actually I used it to cover my bare metal and welds when I did my cab corners and rockers and when I welded trim holes up in my bed cause I like to work out side in the summer. Can't beat the lighting. Anyhow that was two years ago on the corners and rockers. Meanwhile the cab has been painted and such but it sat out side for several months with nothing but 2 coats of Extend on the bare metal and no rust. I have used the spray on version and will not buy it again though because everytime I have used it it began to peel off and flake. So my vote is for the brush and wipe on Extend.

About the undercoating. I have heard some people say it absorbs some moisture and makes it stick and that they have had rockers rust faster with it than without.
I did put it on my rocker and cab corners before I heard that though.. no problems yet but it hasnt been outside yet.

You guys that really know your stuff correct me if I'm wrong - but I think undercoating works fine and doesn't absorb moisture - unless it starts flaking off in a few spots. Then there's a "pocket" that can hold moisture (road salt) and cause rust. Correct?
