I have been thinking about molding one out of 2024 T3 .032 aluminum at work before I move. All of the material is free there. Is that what you are asking?

The original cardboard type are darn tough when they're not 30 years old. I'd pop in a new one unless you really want to customize.

I actually like the look of the stock ones when they are new.

The original ones are tough. Its just a pain getting them in and when you do that or take them out they sometimes get torn up. Mine just has the edges kind of worn but you can't see that.

I didn't have any trouble with my non AC truck. I just installed it right through the opening in the dash. I recently had it out again for painting and removed it the same way.

Buy a quality one. I bought one from classic industries and not one hole lined up.

This may seem OT but I bought a vintage air setup for mine. The A/C fits in the dash but is a different shape than the stock air, so it comes with a molded plastic glove box. It is really nice, someone should make these for stock applications.

The new cardboard liners are tough, and the price on them is not that bad. I'd guess that materials and time to build one would be more expensive, and you still have to install it, which I consider an advantage of the cardboard, because it has that give to it that allows for any neccesary "tweaking". Just my 2 cents.

SWINGSAX68, the glovebox is held in with screws that screw into clip nuts. The clip nuts usually come pre-attached to the new glovebox liner.
