'68 Longhorn Brochure Arrived

Here it is...I've been waiting for this one. This was a mid-year introduction in '68 so it is a fold-out without too much detailed info but great to have just the same.

Rene, I ain't bragging...I'm embarassed...really! It will take me years to restore the "Twin 50th Anniversary Longhorns". From now on I will just refer to them affectionately as the "TWINS"...LOL!

BTW...I will trade you the, yet to be acquired, '72 Super Cheyenne Longhorn Brochure for those hubcaps! Does that sound like a deal?

Mike,

I'd love to have a high res picture too. Please copy me at toms68cst1@hotmailREMOVEME.com

That picture without the camper is interesting because the steel wheels are body colored (gold) not silver like most 2wd 68 wheels are. The truck in the pictures with the camper have silver colored wheels.

Cool find. Until you found that 68 Longhorn brochure I didn't even know they existed.

Tom, It was a real find...you are right. I have only seen the '69 Longhorn brochure but now feel like I have to collect them all...LOL! I was very pleased to see the gold wheels too since I had planned on doing that to a set of widened and reversed wheels with the stock hubcap clips. My new Big Block Longhorn is coming with 33 x 12.5 x 16.5's with clips and new 16.5 inch beauty rings! I did not think they had 16.5 in beauty rings.

I will be making the Big Block 50th Anniversary into a truck version of a "Pro Cruiser" meaning (in my perception anyway) stock on the outside but new 454, od, disc brakes, buckets, ac, cruise, big wheels and tires and all the modern ammenities for cross country touring. The wife has agreed to a camper for it. I will be looking for something like in that brochure...LOL!

The brochure is on the way.

You are becoming the "Longhorn Guru". All Longhorn owners will have to face West and bow each morning! I've got a couple pieces of 68 trim on a truck that just came in.

Nice Mike! What are you doing? Cornering the PACNW market on Longhorns? Ha! J/K When I get the Blazer done, we'll have to get together so you can see how it looks since you found it for me. Jeff.

Thanks Mike. I now have a cool new background for my laptop!

I really like how the colors in the camper match the 50th colors of the truck.

Mike, I was just lookin at the last pic..the one on the back of the booklet...

I zoomed in on it and was suprised to find... holes in the doors for the base model mirrors! Those stainless ones were installed after production!
If you were in GM's advertising department, wouldn't you order a truck with the right mirrors for the photo shoot?

Interesting huh?

Andy, Both of my Longhorns have the small stock mirrors. Personally I am glad nobody drilled holes in the doors for those big monsters or for the tripods...of any kind! My big block Longhorn will get mirrors mounted on the camper!

Did you notice the anchor pads on the side of the box for the camper? How interesing is that? I have never seen those on a truck and I have seen plenty of Camper Specials? What the heck are those? I am used to the aluminum flatbar anchors that bolt to the stake pockets inside the box.

Sales and Marketing will take just about anything for a picture...acurate or not in my experience to get the message out.

Jeff, I have gone Longhorn Crazy! I saw a kid with a Texas Longhorns baseball cap on that said "Longhorns" on the back and just about stole it off his head. Good thing he as about 6-3 and 275...brought me to my senses!

Tom...you're right about those nice colors. That's my plan since the wife said I could buy a camper when the truck is done.

My one ton has those on there. It also had them on the cowl up front. They were installed by the camper dealer.
Longhornjeff's 69 big block longhorn had flat stock welded to the bottom...on the frame if I remember right, that's where the hold downs were on his. I like that idea much better than on the side of the box.

I wonder if that box side mounting was an East Coast deal? I have just never seen them out here except for the cheesy aftermarket pad eyes that some owners installed.
