Might be here more often soon

Hey all,

I just wanted to drop in and say hi. Looks like I may start working on my truck again this winter. I still haven't installed the front end kit that I ordered so that's the first order of business. Next is to replace the wood in the bed. My boyfriend is replacing the wood in a co-worker's F@rd utility truck. He bought the wood at Lowe's, and we spent the weekend cutting, routing, sanding, staining, and coating. I'm pretty impressed with how it's turning out so I'm all geared up to do mine. We have learned it's a PITA so we may wait till spring to do it.
I'm excited to start working on my truck again. It's been way too long....
...although I have had a very fun summer so that makes up for it

Welcome back...sort of.

Glad you will be spending more time with us, and why not post some pics for the new members who don't know you or your stepside.

Good to see you (and other people) are coming back. It's been a little quiet around here over the summer (myself included). Hopefully the cooler temperatures will drive the garage mechanics back infront of the computer.

All the pics I have on my computer are a year old but the only thing that changed is my hair length. All my current pictures aren't scanned in and I'm either grungy from camping or grungy from riding my quad...so you get the last year pic....

Then you can see my truck here: http://webpages.charter.net/chvchk

Glad to see you back working on the truck again Heather I've been hiding here and there as well. Between work and home life time to work on the truck has been short.

gauges

Chevychic,
I am going to have to replace my mechanical speedo with an electric one due to different transmission. I remembered you had done alot of work with gage inlays. I checked out your site and its obvious that you have done alot with the gage cluster. I am holding off tearing my dash apart. How much room is there behind the existing speedo? Do you think there is enough room to swap in a new speedo with out removing enough junk so the other gages remain? thanks....

I'll take a look when I get home. It's been awhile since I've taken the cluster out...but I can do it in about 5 -10 minutes....gotta love power tools

The problem I think you might run into is the cluster housing itself. There's a hole in which the speedo receptacle fits through...without seeing the replacement speedo, I would suspect you're most likely looking at cutting up the cluster so that it would fit. A quick cut with a dremel tool will do the trick, just as long as you leave some plastic for mounting the speedo to. As for room beyond the cluster, you should be fine. Let's just put it this way....with my bezel removed I can reach through one of the dash openings to the right of the cluster and fit my arm all the way back behind the cluster to plug in my speedo cable the few times I was in a hurry and forgot to plug it in.

I've never installed or seen a "behind the scenes" install of an electronic speedo in our trucks. There might be someone here who has and could give you a more accurate answer.

Wait!!!

Please don't rip your dash apart on my behalf! I hope you read this before you do. I appreciate your feedback, I just thought I would ask since you probably had your hands on the cluster alot from doing all the artwork. Thank you....I will probably have to bite the bullet and tear mine apart and see whats what, then decide on a speedo. Right now I have a junk electric one out of an 89 chevy hanging from the rear view mirror, nice!

Nice truck, BTW. FWIW, I have a 15 year old nephew who wants me to help him build a shortbox like yours. I'll have to email one of your truck pics to him.

Don't worry...I wasn't going to

I think I may have some old clusters laying around somewhere that I was going to try to find to have a look at.
