Question Helper Leaf Springs???

My 72 parts truck I got for $100 has helper half leaf springs in front of the coil springs, what's up with that?? My 70 lists heavy duty rear springs but they are just coils? Probably back in a FAQ somewhere, wish they'd fix the search.

Thanks, Chuck
(First complete answer I buy you a beer, but ya gotta come to warm sunny SE Alley Bama)

They are the overloads for your truck. When you put a lot of heavy stuff in your truck like I do, they make contact and keep you from getting too low in the back.

over load springs

They were an option I'm assuming, on any truck? If I lowered this frame should I get rid of them or keep them? They look pretty goofy but I see the value if you haul heavy loads.
(Owe you a beer )

Since you are going to lower it off they must go, maybe someone has a need for them, both of my trucks have them.

Just a thought...my dad had these on his 72 LWB. When he lowered the back 4" w/ springs he put tapered shims between the half leaf and frame...to move it up. Still functioned as original plus lowered ride. Anyway.......

If they are in front of the rear springs they are aftermarket. The factory helpers were behind the rear springs. My dad had a set of them on the old 69 he had. They really helped out with the 9' slide in camper we had on the truck...
