Comp Cam Up Date
As some of you know I was having a problem with VERY noisy lifters in a 454 with a Comp Cam (270 duration / 510 Lift) after consulting Comp and changing cams TWICE they have offered to refund my $$ on the two cams.
Not quit what I spent on gaskets, oil and major frustration but something none the less. I ended up with their split duration (268/280) 520 lift cam and all the noise is gone. They blamed it on application error. Will I ever have another Comp Cam? NO

I've Had Bad Luck With Their Cams & Roller Tipped Rockers Also. I Wouldn't Buy Any Comp. Cams Stuff On A Bet. John

comp cams has had problems for quite a few years with poor quality. they had lots of soft cores which resulted in wiped out cams and still do. i refuse to run them or reccomend them to anyone after replacing who knows how many way too soon that were properly broken in

I wiped out two of them before I knew that this was common with Comp. The first one lasted a week.

Several years ago, I had the same problem. Did a complete rebuild, with all the "goodies" or so I thought. One of which was a Comp Cam (extreme energy, if I remember correctly) Broke-in the cam as i've done many times in the past. It ran really good for a month of light driving. But then quickly went down hill after that. It took me some time to figure out why it was running so bad. Kept running like the timing was off. But could never get it dialed in. But a compression test determined that something was seriously wrong. Pulled the engine, dissassembled it and found this....
Needless to say I was REALLY dissappointed (to put it lightly). Comp Cams doesn't get a second chance w/ me. Went w/ an edelbrock performer camshaft, been runnin perfectly, gobs-o-torque.

MINE WAS IN A 468. IT LASTED 6000 MILES. IT DEPOSITED 1000s OF TINY METAL PARTICLES THAT CIRCULATED THRU MY OIL SYSTEM, CHEWING UP A STEEL NITRIDED CRANK & EVERY BEARING IN THIS MOTOR. YEH.. I GUESS I LEARNED MY LESSON WITH THEM. THE LESSON WAS DON'T USE ANY COMP. CAMS PRODUCT EVEN IF THEY ARE FREE!!!! JOHN
