New Guy here...
Just wanted to post and say hello. I just picked up a '71 Suburban from one of my friends Dad's. I have been looking for a 2wd Blazer to bag and chop to no avail(few and far between here in Colorado). It just so happened that my buddies Dad had a 4wd Suburban sitting in his backyard for about the last 10 years. Low and behold he wanted to sell it and it even runs and drives just fine. It's all stock, 350 V8 and TH350 tranny, has all your standard rust etc. but pretty good shape overall. Picked it up for $800.
Plans initially include all the bodywork. A friend of mine is donating me his bodywork expertise and will be doing most of the work with my help. I have all the patch panels already and began tearing into it last weekend. Future plans include converting it to 2wd(have all the parts already), bagging it and probably chopping it too(hopefully you guys don't think thats sacrilegious). I'm going to leave the interior 100% stock/clean. I'll try to post my progress on here. Thanks. Mark Here are a few of the pics from right after I picked it up: |

I do not have a problem, but a 2wd can be had cheap enough, so I might not convert this one? It is up to you and it is yours to do with how you please, but I'd hold out to see if I couldn't find a 2wd and then sell this one to cover the cost of the 2wd. I really think 4X4's should stay that way, not because of anything other than there is a truck for everyone and somebody on this board might be more than happy to take the 4X4 off of your hands and help you on your way to a 2wd. I have heard of guys converting 4X4 Blazers to 2wd, and I even considered doing to one that I had, but I couldn't bring myself to cutting it up and eventually I sold it for more than I paid for it. You'll find 2wd subs are not nearly as hard to come by as Blazers, but a 4X4 Sub is somewhat of a lower production number compared to the 2wd subs. Just my thoughts, but they are just that my opinion and you can take it of leave it, I understand. Either way Good Luck and a great find for $800!! |

First want to welcome you to the board and now I want to tell you that it looks like a great buy to me. Keep us informed on your progress on the Burb. You can also post on the regular '67-'72 message board and you will receive help to your questions. Also, check out the parts board for the '67-'72. Again, welcome. By the way-we love pictures on here.

Re: New Guy here...
Welcome to the best damn board on the 'net. Lots of good information and parts availabile here. Many members are willing to help in the info dept. My own two cents on your '71 Burb; Great find for the price!! I would leave the
4wd alone. Consider selling it if you have your heart set on wanting a bagged and chopped 'Burb. Being in Colorado I would think someone would be very interested in a 4x4 'Burb. Make a great hunting rig for the back country. Give it some thought and good luck on your decision.

Re: New Guy here...
I also agree with the humble suggestions to leave it a 4x4. 2wd burbs are a dime a dozen compared to the 4x4 burbs. You could come out ahead on one for the other except for the time spent. You know your time and budget needs better than us.
Great to hear you've already got crackin' on it.

Re: New Guy here...
Wow thanks for all the input. The truth is, I can't find a 2wd Burb or Blazer here in Colorado. And with gas prices and the economy I couldn't give away this big beast even with all the hunters, campers and 4x4 guys around here. My buddy that is helping me with all the work specializes in 67-72 restoration and even he can't locate a cheap one(2wd) anywhere near what I paid for mine. He has a 3/4 ton, big block, 2wd Burb that he won't sell for any price. He already shortened it and chopped it(looks incredible).
I already have every nut and bolt from a 2wd truck front end to convert it over to 2wd and I have another T350 tranny out of one of my buddies cars ready to go it the Burb too. If anybody has a relatively nice 2wd and wants to contemplate a trade I'm all ears I won't be hacking into the front end or suspension anytime soon so if a deal comes along the 4 wheel drive will still be intact for a while Thanks again for the welcome. Mark More pics for you guys |
