Interior color?

New to this board and have a question, I am doing a restoration on a 61 and I am approaching the paint stage. My question is, what is the proper factory color, after looking at the same year trucks here, they confused me. My 3 trucks 60, 61, and 63 are all a faint gold inside and all are different colors outside, most trucks around here a exterior color inside? Which is correct? I think all 3 of my trucks have never been touched inside. If it is the faint gold, anybody have a paint code or # for that color? Also any good places for period accessories, aftermarket or otherwise? Thanks, Mitch

Re: Interior color?

The Original factory spec was a non-gloss light gold or "fawn" color that your truck is now with a white trim ring around the door panels in the custom cabs. My dad liked that color so much that after an accident in his '63 C10 back in '65, he had the insurance company paint the exterior the same color as the interior. It was originally 'beige'. I hate 'beige'.

There was an exception in the 1966 year models: most of the interior was fawn like all the other years with one departure: they painted the dash a little darker shade - almost a brown color. I'm not exactly sure about the transition year 1967, but I do know that by 1968 they had gone to body color on the interiors.

Of course the "correct" color can be what ever suits you, the sky's the limit - except for "Hurcherize Pink". You gotta draw the line somewhere!

Re: Interior color?

Both my 66 & 64 GMC's customs had the fawn but I've heard of some having a flat sheen dash top of a different shade depending on the color of outside truck not always the exterior color although I've never seen any pictures of these. Pull off your gauge panel and look on edges for original color.Another thing I've noticed on both trucks was the original floor mat was also painted cab color, the first truck I thought someone had repainted the interior and got sloppy but this current truck is the same and by the lokks of interior is original paint.

Re: Interior color?

PPG 22151 Fawn poly(metallic), OE was lacquer & new paint has lots more shine. A flattener can be added but I like the shine, Brian
