Power Steering Conversion

I'm going to convert to power steering on my 66 Chevy truck very soon. I see REZ Engineering and CPP both make a coversion "kit". Both list their method of installing and they are very similar, but slightly different. Has anybody used either or have a preference?

This will be on a 250 six cylinder.

Re: Power Steering Conversion

Sixpac, I have the Rez "kit" on my 65. It's an easy install, just two plates that sandwich the frame rail. Moves the sector over so that the sector shaft bulge on the gearbox clears the frame. As these frames are not notched like the 67-72 frames. I think it's better than shimming it over with washers, all though some have made their own brackets and they work. Hope this helps, Kevin

Re: Power Steering Conversion

i believe i saw a kit that included the end of the steering coluum.thats the one id use.i used the rez kit before.i had to get a machine shop to drill out the old flange and then i had to get a mobile welder to weld it back.it works fine though.

Re: Power Steering Conversion

I haven't seen that kit. Remember where you saw it?
I bought a p.s. pump for $30 that is supposed to be off a 76 six cylinder. The brackets weren't shown, but the guy said he would send all the brackets with it. Hope it's not a $30 boo boo.

It seems the brackets and pulleys are the hardest parts to find!
The salvage yards around southern Indiana seem to think its funny if you ask them if they have any 60-70's year trucks. I wouldn't mind driving a couple hours if I coud find a boneyard that had some of these trucks.

Re: Power Steering Conversion

the cpp kit is the one that doesn't require welding.
