Vaccum Switch
Hello,
I'm trying to find a part number or description for a vaccum switch on my 1984 250ci inline six. It is located almost in the center of the block on the passenger side. Any ideas how I can find it? I cannot locate it in the shop manual. THanks,

Re: Vaccum Switch
Try searching on "GM Parts Online" you should get several vendors that sell GM parts. They normally have a catalog you can look up GM part numbers in.

Re: Vaccum Switch
If you want to know how it works (what temp it switches at, what it controls, etc.) I have no idea. If you just want to replace it, any auto parts store should be able to provide you with a replacement. When I changed mine, they just needed to know the application, the number of ports, and the color. I think the color identified the temp at which it started working.
Slonaker Edit: I am not positive, but I want to say that it had a part number stamped on the portion that comes in contact with the coolant. Last edited by Slonaker; 12-02-2005 at 10:57 AM. |

Re: Vaccum Switch
I can't tell anything from the pic, and I am not familiar with 6 cylinders. Are you sure it is a vacuum switch? It looks more like a sender of some type, unless it is broken.

Re: Vaccum Switch
That doesn't look like a vacuum port. Ports have vacuum lines running to them. This is a vacuum port.
That looks like some sort of sensor.

Re: Vaccum Switch
It used to have a vaccum line running to it. The plastic is broken. that is why I am looking for a new one. I cracked it, the machine shop that did the rebuild finished it off. They don't know what part it is for either. Does anyone know of an old chevy dealership mechanic?

Re: Vaccum Switch
LMC Truck has all the TVS parts you can shake a stick at. Get the number off of the switch and the color. Most parts stores should have these or be able to get them. Don't forget to count the number of ports.

Re: Vaccum Switch
Finding the part information, including part number, is the problem I am having. There is no visual part number.

Re: Vaccum Switch
LMC has a catalog with pictures. You might be able to look online and match it up. If not, you can order one or try to download what you need. That's the best I can tell you. Good luck.
