Late model bed on a 70
A buddy is in the process of rebuilding his 70 stepside 4X4 and has seen photos of the late model sportside bed on these older trucks. He has bought a bed from a 90 and was wondering what has to be modified for it to fit on the frame.

Re: Late model bed on a 70
Hang it from an engine hoist. Get it lined up where you want it, mark the frame for 4 mounts that need to be welded on. 2" wide 3/8ths strap heated and bent to a 90 worked great. I filled the the outter ribs in back of the cab for a smoother look and added rear step shavers too. Drill the mount holes and hook up the lites.
Some guys dont like the look because of the difference in wheel well opening shapes (but some guys don't like girls either), to each their own. I did it 'cuz I liked it. Some guys think GABE's truck looks bad because of it. I think they're nuts. |

Re: Late model bed on a 70
There is not to much mod. to do to the frame or the bed. I had a 90 model on my 72, I used a piece of 1in square tubing in the front & made a L bracket for the rear. I had to notch a crossmember on the bed to clear the frame. The frames on the later model trucks are a little wider so I was able to drill holes in the tubing to mount to the frame & holes for the bed.
