towing a 4x4 blazer?

Has anyone towed a blazer behind a RV? Mine is a 4x4, thinking about puttin some street tires on it, taken off my expensive mudders and using a tow bar on her. Not sure if I would need driveshaft disconnects or if I could just put the transfer case in nuetral and pull her. Any body have any suggestions or ideas or experience? Some one let me know before I mess something up!!!

Is it lifted? I think I'd look for a trailer to tow it.

I believe I read on CK5.com a couple years back that they recommended disconnecting the drivelines, but it was a few years ago and I can't remember the situation.

Trailer it, alot less hassle, and easier on the RV brakes

Alot to think about right there.

Towing something that heavy without auxiliary brakes is just plane scary and in my own personnel opinion, not the safest thing to do.

Exactly, the worst thing would be the Blazer trying to pass you when the motorhome is trying to stop

I have bought 3 4x4 trucks and used a bumper tow bar on all of them. I have only towed them for a short distances. It doesn't even feel safe towing even in the short distances. Listen to the board members and get a trailer.

My Blue Blazer was set up for towing behind a motor home. It is a 4spd, 4x4 with lockouts. The PO had the wiring set up for simple hookup and the front bumper modified for a tow bar hitch. He towed it back and forth from Michigan to Florida. I bought it and towed it to KY behind my Tahoe.
If yours is auto and you have front wheel lockouts, I would disco the rear driveshaft and it would be fine. If you don't have lockouts, I would be concerned about heat buildup through the transfercase and into the transmission. The right size motorhome would handle the pull ok but the breaking would be a concern as a fully loaded blazer probably weighs 5500lbs.
Behind the Tahoe, it would want to push in turns causing the tahoe tail to swing more then I liked. Weight and tire size are also factors in this push.
Safest bet is a trailer with brakes.

You have several issues to deal with and your best solution is a WIDE car trailer with break away and trailer brakes!!!

If its full time 4 wheel drive you must disconnect all drivelines to avoid burning up the trans. and transfer case.THIS IS THE LEAST OF YOUR PROBLEMS!!!

Every state has towing guidlines enforced mainly by DOT. Of couse in this greatly organized country they cant get all the states to follow the same rules. There are several towing web pages that tell the rules in each state but basically you have to have a "brake away" BRAKE system on any thing you tow that weighs more than...in some states 1000 pouds in others 2000 pounds and in most states the law is 3000 pounds.

If you decide to get a car trailer.....remeber to measure the front of your truck with whatever tires you are going to haul it with. Most of your mid-ranged car trailers arent wide enough for tires bigger than 31 x 10.50.

Aslo....remeber..the rules on trailers have changed again ...(like dealing with women...the rules always change)...you must have brakes on every axle on the trailer and it MUST have a brake away system on it too. Dont be fooled by these $900 car trailers..they are not legal in most states.
