Washed out K5...
first the details.. I have a 72' K5 4"lift, 35" BFG m/t 350/350, motor has minor work to it but contains a comp cam 4x4 270H, HEI, Accell coil. RPM Air gap manifold, 2 bolt main. Previous owner says it had 10K on crate engine. I did all the before mentioned motor work.
so here is the story.... A couple days ago i got my hands on a holley 670 truck avenger. I currently had been running a road demon i had borrowed that misteriously one day began pouring gas from the boosters. The install went great and when i fired it up with the truckie it was only firing on about 4 cyl.. great, i love it when probloms like this arise.. pulled the plugs, extreamly black and wet. I changed plugs and it ran better but still very rough. This is when i finally decided to get in myself while i was starting it (my roomate was manning the key before while i was in the engine compartment). Got it running and noticed the 0 oil pressure... Pulled the dipstick only to find i had about 2 gallons of gasoline in my crankcase...SWEET!!! Well lucky for me i had wanted to build my extra vortech motor and this definantly gives me the opertunity now. Any suggestions on this situation? I already have to pull the motor or tranny out anyways to get rid of the 2400 stall the previous owner stuck in it. So i figure id clean out the motor and get rid of it now.. Oh and its pouring down rain today... haha let me know what you all think, thanks!

i have gas like that in them before all i did was drain the motor oil and let it drain about 3 days (i really forgot about it ) and filled it back up with oil was as good as it was before and it lasted about 10 more years before i blow it up

I would drain the oil and replace it, run it for a few minutes, and drain it again, if the oil looks decent put new oil in and you should be good to go.

I would change the oil and see what happens before I replaced the engine (unless you're just looking for an excuse ).

Are you trying to figure out how the gas got in the crankcase?
My best guess will be a stuck float in the carb. Needle not stopping the gas and it is pouring down the intake through the rings and into the crankcase. |

Thanks for all the info guys! I just finished replaceing the oil and the pressure is back and runs great with the new carb. BTW i drained about 4 gallons of liquid out of the crankcase...there went 10 bucks of gas! O well.
does anyone have any info on what the tab may be on the end of the heads in the 3rd pic? Or how to find out if this motor was a crate engine? No numbers are visible. Also what would have been the idea behind haveing a stall converter be so tall in a 4wd like this? it starts moveing around 2200 but i think it is at least a 2400 stall. Thanks again

Do you mean the braided metal that you can see to the right of the fuel filter? That's a grounding strap. Not sure why someone would put it there, other than it's easy to reach.
If the pad on the front passenger side block, where it meets the head, doesn't have anything on it, it means that your block has been decked. That's where the id numbers from the build process are stamped. Brian |

acutally i was talkin about the odd shaped tab tac welded in between the ground strap and filter. Its hard to see because its painted. Ive never seen this before so it struck me as odd. The freeze plugs have that overheating compound on them (visible in pic, looks like quarter) so it must have been a crate. basically if overheated these are supposed to fall off voiding the warantee.
Anyways i think im still having a problom but tracked it down finnaly, seems the mechanical fuel pump has gone bunk and has been passing fuel into the block.... Project for today, new pump and yet another oil change!
