58-59 On Late Model 4x4 Frame/Running Gear
Anybody ever put a 58-59 long box pickup on a late model 4x4 frame/running gear? If so, what did you use, mid 70's early 80's pickup?? Thanks all.

Re: 58-59 On Late Model 4x4 Frame/Running Gear
I have put a 56 on a 72 frame (2 wheel drive), all the measurements were very close. The only thing that I did was use the frame mounts off the 56 on the 72 frame. There is still the usual odds and ends to hook up but it works

Re: 58-59 On Late Model 4x4 Frame/Running Gear
I hung '80s 4x4 running gear on a stock '57 frame & springs. Rear was easy, I cut off the axle spring perches & welded on aftermarket. Measure the width on the front axle, as the right side is cast into the pumpkin. Be careful with the steering, use a truck PS unit that mounts on the outside of the frame.
I also used a HURST drop front motor mount & a modified transmission/transfer case mount out of a car. This allowed me to remove the bell housing mount for front driveshaft clearance. You will also need to find front springs with less arch OR rear springs with more arch. Good luck, Gary. |
