Ammeter--boy am I stupid...
My Ammeter was not working....so I removed the instrument panel and replaced the ammeter gauge with an NOS one that I got off EvilBay. Put it all back together but the gauge still would not work. Decided to look in the shop manual and found the there are TWO fuses in the harness for the Ammeter???? Anyhow, replaced the fuse on the drivers side near headlight (18 guage black and white wire) and voila...Ammeter works.
Wish I had looked at shop manual before starting...Oh well...live and learn.

Re: Ammeter--boy am I stupid...
Good to hear you have admitted yourself to our club.
Now for the bad news. Your ammeter really isn't an ammeter. It's a voltmeter that measures the voltage difference between the alternator output and the battery input. The fuses protect the meter in case things get too out of whack. Now you can start feeling smarter again.

Re: Ammeter--boy am I stupid...
Ah Hell! The guy I got my C/10 from had the same problem. He replaced his gauge with a new one over 20 years ago and it still didn't work. I never took the time to try to track down the problem. After reading your post I went out and popped the hood, sure enough it was blown. Does anyone know what amp this fuse is? Mine was blown and apparently I broke the glass when I pulled the wiring apart. The fuse looks like it was very short. Can anyone tell me what I need to get it going again?

Re: Ammeter--boy am I stupid...
I got some fuses to check..... Only there under the dash in my truck now. With the shaved firewall all the wiring is tucked up under the dash this is going to be fun.
