which new cab mounts to buy?
I'm taking my cab off, won't be this weekend, might be during the week, I'm just not sure yet. Just curious - what do you recommend for replacements? I've heard a LOT about the Energy Suspension mounts and wonder if it's worth the money - also, should any bolts be replaced in the meantime while I'm in there?

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
i used the energy suspension// i've i had to do it again i'd go for the stock rubber mounts as they had a bit of give to them and didn't transmit as much vibration thru the cab

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
Unless your hardware is in good shape, you should replace it. Onece it is rusted it won't take long to go from bad to worce. I personaly wouldn't use urithane mounts because they do not habe any give in them. You just as well weld the cab to the frame. Your frame is flexible and your cab is not, this is why GM put rubber mounts on the truck. Urithane will not allow the frame to flex seperately from the body and will only cause rattling problems in the future. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I'm sure Wes has a good product too But I orded a complete cab/rad support rubber set from GMC Pauls. It comes with the metal hardware too.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
I've got the urethane mounts on my truck and will be changing them out for the rubber as soon as I get some free money to change them out with.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
I used new GM mounts on all my trucks but the latest one.
On it, I used aftermarket rubber mounts. They got dry rot looking and small cracks within a few months. I'll use GM mounts from here on out, till they go dis****inued.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
I used energy susupension on my suburban. It was the best $115 I've spent on the project. Of course, the only thing I had to compare to were the 37 year old original mounts.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
...and be aware the many of the 67-72 PU body mount kits do not have the correct hardware (Counterpart sets, for one) and the core support mounts are actually for 69-72///not 67-8. I repackage my kits,(so does Brother's) adding bolts, washers, etc. so they have all the correct hardware. Then I can offer both 67-8 and 69-72 sets. Sorry, I don't ship these...not enough time. They are available to our local in store customers.
...not everyone agrees that rubber or urethane is better. I sell both! Some guys insist on urethane, because it does not breakdown like the rubber and it keeps the body lines straight. I have heard the theories that urethane rides rougher, doesn't let the frame flex and transmits vibrations. I don't think so. Take a look at your truck. The rough road and ride is absorbed by the tires, shocks, springs and finally the seat under your body. You will get more rough rides from firm shocks and big wheels with short tires/bricks, than urethane body mounts. ...I have never had a guy come back and say he wanted to replace his urethane mounts because they were too rough. |

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
Hey Frank, We do not re-package our kits. We Manufacture all of the parts in our cab and core mounts sets. This includes the all the upper and lower bushings as well as the special square washers and lock plates for the core supports. We do not buy any of our 67-72 pick up cab mount or core sets from any of the wholesellers.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
Interesting thread. I too will be tackling cab mounts. Mine now are rubber and about 19 years old and cracking.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
Thanks for all the feedback thus far guys, I appreciate it. Still haven't come to a decision. I found a $617 reimbursement check from last February in my desk...this is an unexpected little bonus! I never cashed it, so now I have some extra $$ to spend on the truck that I didn't know about.

Re: which new cab mounts to buy?
I repackage them, actually with some of Brother's parts.
They make theirs...that is cool. I was trying to say they are the only other dealer I knew of with the complete correct sets. There may be more, but their's are really good. |
