wtb-2 used catalytic converters (cheap)

i'm lookin for 2 used catalytic converters....i'd prefer either 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" diameter ....i'm just going to whack the guts out of them and replace them with a straight piece of pipe, so if there old and clogged, i dont care

thanks

A law breaking man after my own heart. Fortunately Indiana doesn't do smog checks and Hooker makes dual exhaust systems in a box or I might have a similar post.

yep, thats me

we dont have smog checks here....none...

its just if you lift your truck here, you have to get whats called a "modified" state inspection sticker....you cant just get a reg insp. sticker if you modify your chassis....

that means that your "extremely" limited as to the number of places you can then get a damn sticker...there's only like 3 places within a hour or so from me......

they just look to see if you have cats...they really dont care if there any good or not, they just got to be on there

You have to love the way so many laws are enforced. I figure most laws like that are written so someone can shove some coin in there pocket.

Go to a muffler shop. I'm sure they would be glad to get rid of a couple of them. Then they don't have to pay to haul them off.

i've already tried hittin up all the muff shops around a 1 hour radius...it seems that someone or some company comes around every few weeks and buys the used cats for like $20-40 apiece

I've been told several times here in Texas that it's technically illegal to sell a used converter. There's even little signs at some swap meet registration booths reminding all sellers of the fact. That said, muffler shops do have guys that come and collect them periodically.

Old convertors are worth money. There is platinum that can be extracted from them.

Re: wtb-2 used catalytic converters (cheap)

The way I've heard it around here. Is that junkyards cant sell exhaust but they can give them away. But I guess that would be silly on the owners part of the junkyard the gives away free exhausts. I again dont know how much truth there is in that also.

I've heard the platinum thing too. I think it's true.

The thing that I wonder is why it's illegal to sell used converters but muffler shops have people that come around and pay them for the used converters...???? Is that not selling? LOL
