overhead consoles?

i've been thinking about putting a new overhead console in my truck. i'm looking at a number of different styles out of late model cars and trucks on ebay, and wondered if anyone had experience with some that may fit better than others (width between visors, slope of the roof, drop depth.) i'm looking at some from the most recent chevy trucks and tahoes, as well as some of the dodge ones.

anthing fit particularly well? anything to stay away from?

thanks

Re: overhead consoles?

Good idea!! I wonder when they first come out? 96 or so? What about the ones with the map lights in them, and the compass, and the mpg. What wires are needed to make them work?

Re: overhead consoles?

compass would prolly work, but i don't think mpg would unless there were a computer under the hood.

Re: overhead consoles?

Some of the earlier ones don't have mpg, but outside temp if I'm not mistaken. Then, you just have to get the sensor as well and run it somehow. I would love to have a console like these. Some don't have the display, some are short, some are medium, and some are long as all get out. Some 80's camaros had a straighter one that might fit better, but they ain't all that pretty.

One way to overcome the fit would be to install a custom headliner that had a half inch or so of foam under the fabric that would allow the console to squish into it some to make it "look" like a better fit.

Re: overhead consoles?

Ya, I know the mpg wouldn't work. My woman has a 98 blazer with a nice overhead console in it. I might have to tear it out. Ha ha.

Re: overhead consoles?

Not a console, but I added this map light set up from a '90 f*rd F-250 in my panel. Works pretty good, too. I have more pics of the install if anyone is interested.

Re: overhead consoles?

I like the map lights that were in the bottom of the mirror on my old 88 S10 I used to have.
