Clutch problem need help!
I just swapped a clutch disc in a 67 2 ton.The disc was gone.no material left on it at all.So I just swaped the disc for my boss, used the old pressure plate ect,and now it won't release.
So figuring the plate went bad I took it back out and swapped the pressure plate, and still no joy.The thing will not release, what is going on here? This truck has the 305 V6,and the pressure plate bolts up with 6 bolts, not evenly spaced around the edge, but the frame of hte plate looks like a triangle,if that makes any sense. The plate is moving when hte pedal is depressed, but it will not release. TIA

Re: Clutch problem need help!
Is the disc in correctly? Could the throw out bearing be bad?

Re: Clutch problem need help!
I have checked and double checked the throwout bearing,it is in the correct position, and it was working until I switched the clutch disc.So it should work now I would think

It may sound stupid but is the clutch disc in backwards?

Backwards bit me once also. I missed a hot date cuz my dumb self pulled it out laying under the truck one way and put it back in facing the other way.

Re: Clutch problem need help!
maybe the linkage just needs adjustment because the new disk is thicker than the old one.

Re: Clutch problem need help!
Ok guys here's the deal. The autoparts places around here couldn't get a "KIT" for the truck because of it's size, age, and it not being the original engine.
I did manage to scare up a new disc from NAPA,but no pressure plate, had to go used on that one.The "New" plate acts just like the old one.It moves away from the flywheel more than a 1/4 inch, but will not release the disc.I can see it moving in and out lying under the truck. The disc is in the right way.I have put them in backwards too, this one isn't.That's what I thought at first too.I checked the clearance between hte back of the disc and the pressure plate, and there is plenty of room where the disc sticks through. It has a roller pilot bearing installed,it rolls smooth as glass. I have adjusted the linkage until there is constant pressure on the bearing,no play in hte pedal, that should be enough to let it work if it's going to I think. I really can't think of anthing else to do to make this thing work, and it's driving me crazy.I wanna get it out of the yard....lol

Re: Clutch problem need help!
Drop the tranny, but leave the bell housing and linkage in place. take the alignment tool and stick in the disk, get a buddy to push the clutch and with a flashlight see why the thing is not releasing. check the diameter of the plate see that its not hanging the pins or bolts.

Re: Clutch problem need help!
This may sound dumb, but make sure your pressure plate bolts are in tight. I had one work loose on me and it would not let the clutch release enough to make contact with the plate.

Re: Clutch problem need help!
Looks like the nose of the clutch is too long, and going up inside the crankshaft, and the inside edge on the back of the disc is marked up like it has been slipping. Is this even possible?
I took it apart today and this is all I could find,I can get pics tomorrow if needed.
