New '70 Jimmy
Just got a 1970 GMC Jimmy last night. Factory Options include 350/350, A/C, power steering, power brakes, posi rear, rear seat equipment, am-oil-temp guages, med olive, heavy duty aux seat, 650x16x6 front rear sp (no longer on it), white aux top, olive vinyll trim.
Pretty original. Looks like original paint, but a little overspray on windshield rubber and some clear coat burn, so maybe a old repaint? Little rust on outer rockers, rocker boxes look solid. FLoor has a couple holes below dimmer and right behind driver seat. All the other usual places I've read about on this site are good. Missing compressor for AC but I think its complete other than that. Came with replacement outer rockers, drivers floor section, and front and rear pieces for the drivers rear quater panel, has a crease in itm but no rust. I'll be looking for info from the site. I'm hoping to restore this beauty. Any advise is appreciated and look forward to sharing the experience. |

Nice looking Jimmy and cool factory options. What are your plans? It looks lifted how much and how big are those tires?

Re: New '70 Jimmy
Thanks guys. It has the later model Ralley wheels with 31x10.50x15 tires. No, no original rims and no spare. Has Rancho shocks (5113) on it so maybe a little suspension lift? no blocks in rear. Has poly body bushings recently installed. Other than that no aftermarket parts I can find (except roll bar I'm assuming, and push bar, which is coming off) , pretty original, even the AM radio. The motor is orange and has a label on the passenger valve cover that says 350 and date of manufacture Sept 1971, So I would guess not original but close? Haven't started even taking the carpet out yet, well maybe tonight. Not 100% on my plans yet AFTER the rust issues. This will be my 4th K5 but my first 1st gen. I had a 74, 75, 89, 90. Never did a frame off restore so more than likely that will be the desicion. Most likely keep the factory color, ride height (well maybe a little lift like it has, I like the stance), and restore everything else. Take it slow and make a real nice cruiser. If I need to tear it up off-road I'll take the HD.

Re: New '70 Jimmy
I have the blazer cousin to that Jimmy. Everything the same right down to the 16.5 rims. Does it still have the drum brake front in it or has it been switched out

Discs weren't offered until 71 on trucks and blazers.

Re: New '70 Jimmy
If it has disc probably whatever those rallys came off of is where the front end came from. When I bought the 70 I have assumed it had disc like my 71. When I got it it had a newer front end swaped in it. Also mine had power brakes for drum. I switch the master cylinder and prop valve. It looks like yours has the smaller MC hard to tell from the pic.
