Evryone I ever saw leaked. They were cheap. If you want something that shines buy a billet one off Ebay. You can usally find them for under $20.00

Dont bother to try and fix it! You can get another at nearly any parts store for under $10 and it wont leak for a few more years.

Re: chrome water neck leak

I have tried a new o ring. I have tried a paper gasket. I have tried a combination of both. I tried those combinations with and without rtv.
The only time it didnt leak was when I first put it on new.

Same here. I just tossed it and put the stock one on.

Re: chrome water neck leak

i have one on mine, never had a problem from the start but then i had it off a couple times so it started to leak . I checked it out and the o-ring was flattened out. When i just did my manifold on the weekend I bought new o-rings and its fine now

Re: chrome water neck leak

One of my good friends had a chrome water neck leak a couple of years ago. He brought the car up to operating temp., shut it off, and tried to tighten it down a little. The water neck cracked and sprayed him in the face, neck, chest and arms. All they could do was spray him down with a water hose until the ambulance got there. The part was from a reputable company so I think they are all JUNK!!!

Re: chrome water neck leak

After going through 3 chrome housings that leaked no matter what I did, I just went to autozone and bought a stock steel replacement for $5 and painted it silver to match my performer intake. Haven't had a problem with it and it hasn't leaked a drop.

Same here, I went through 2 chrome housings on a 68 Vette I was driving for a while. I sent with a nice used GM piece and the problem was solved

Re: chrome water neck leak

The chrome water necks are of a cheap quality of material and they distort easily when you tighten up the bolts. If you want good looks and versatility, then purchase one of the billet aluminum necks that seals with an "O Ring". There are several companies that make them, I chose "Billet Specialties" and purchased through Summit Racing. I got the one that has a mounting ring and it rotates to the spot you want it. It solved my leaking probelms for good, I have had one on my stroker motor for over 3 years and I now have one on my son's truck for about a year.

Re: chrome water neck leak

Check out page 14 of the May issue of Classic Trucks. They mention this very problem and suggest the Performance Stainless Steel product as a solution.
