engine swap
 OK don't hate me but is it possible without TOO much work to install a 460 under the hood. Why? well there is a great running 460 here w/trans for $300 and the chevy motors I'm finding for that range are all clapped out. I realize this is grounds for burying me under a stadium and would diminush my resale value but it's not a pristine truck and with my budget won't be, but it's my toy.

I would go for it. I had tossed around the same Idea for my 63 c-10. It should not be a whole lot harder than dropping in a GM BB.

you will need a rear sump oilpan.most 460s are front sump.

I don't think many people here have experience swapping IN fords

Uhhh, I'd hold out. How much fabrication skills do you have? If you had an old Ford to put that 460 in I'd say go for it. You can get a crate motor 350 from GM for about $1500. I know it is hard towait, but I'd suggest you do. The Lima 429-460 engines are great, but you will be using money to put a square peg in a round hole, that $300 engine is that price for a reason.

well I'm convinced that I'm totally off my rocker but I bought the van.Ignorance is bliss as they say,if I'd done a out of family motor change befor I'm sure I wouldn't be doing it again ( I put an olds 350 into a 79 chevy truck) So when the weather FINALLY breaks in tropical Cleve. I will pull it out and tear down for inspection "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" I should be godzilla after this one. Thanks for input.

I am pretty much a GM man myself, but I have seriously considered swapping a 460 into my '62 C10. The big Fords are SOOO cheap around here. I've got a plasma cutter and a 220V Lincoln MIG welder. Of course, your friends will laugh at you, but the most popular swap for the 1956 Ford F100 pickups is...you guessed it...a 350 Chevy SB. The way I look at it, a cam and a pair of Flowmaster 40s with turndowns can cover up a lot!

I like to keep ford engines with fords, chevy engines with chevy's and mopar with mopar.. I think putting a chevy engine in a ford is not right and they only do it because they are cheaper to rebuild and parts are a dime a dozen.. Although I always thought about putting a caddy or hemi in my truck..
 I know you are doing it because you can get it for cheap but you will probably spend more time and money of course getting it to fit in right... Check out craigslist if it is in your area and see what you can find there...

the 460 has great power they will pass anything on the hi-way but a gas station.I had one in an 87 f-350 it got 8 mpg empty or loaded to the max.It may be more costly to put it in the pick up then finding a good 350.Just my $0.02
