Just joined, need help starting a restoration...
Hey all. This site is awesome. As soon as I came across it, I had to join.
I have a '71 Cheyenne Longbed. It's been restored once about 12 years ago by a guy in California (where the truck originates), but needs it again. I consider myself a moderately capable wrencher, with tools & ability to change or repair external parts such as brakes, starters, alternators, power steering pumps, etc. However, when it comes to things like electrical, upholstery, or pulling engines, rear ends, etc., I don't really have the equipment or know-how. So some things I will be able to do myself, others I will definitely need help with. I'm basically looking for two things to get started: One is a local shop or Chevy truck club in Charlotte NC that might help me with the restoration. The other would be some advice on where to start. Immediate needs are rear brakes & drums, front rotors, turn signal cam, and lots of electrical work (the wiring is original). I welcome any suggestions. Also, if there is already a thread on how to get started with a restoration project, please direct me to it. I looked around and found tons of individual projects that will be helpful, but first I think I need some overall advice. Thanks in advance for any advice offered! Welcome to the board from South Mississippi! Go to our FAQ Submissions page and find my Index thread. There's a link to a discussion on restoration that a lot of folks gave input on. It's pretty good reading.

Thanks Krue for organizing the info into categories. That will be a great source as I go through my restoration. Is it possible to collect or save threads into my profile so I don't have to go looking for them? From what I can tell there are hundreds.
Thanks again! |
