cooling a big block ?

Anybody running a healthy big block in you truck ,how are you keeping it cool ? I noticed today the really small size available to mount a radiator compared to newer ones. My friends 84 suburban big block has a radiator ten inches wider than I can put in.

I put a Modine 1R347(4 core) in mine. It's the widest rad I could find. It's a cross flow unit. I have the Modine catalog with all their rad specs zipped(3.8 megs) I can email to you if you want it PM me with an email address.

I ordered a Be Cool radiator from Summit Racing just for 69 to 72 trucks. They are pricey but worth the money. I am putting a 500+ h.p. 396 in my '71 longbed.

Re: cooling a big block ?

I have an 18 X 22 stock in my 58 3100, 550hp. I'm running 4 electric fans. 2 -8" and 2 - 9" Zirgo's for a total of 5000 CFM. Keeps the engine at 180 degrees on prolonged idles with 80 degree outside temp. I do expect it to heat up some in 100 degree weather but not boil over.

I'm not sure ,I thought the 67 and up were wider than mine I can only go a max of 24 wide till I hit the inner fenders.

I don't have right tanks for 4 row - top is three row and bottom is 2 row ( PO replaced it at some point) I have to get a whole unit.
