Wheels..no such thing as a stupid question, right?
Hey all. Another kind of silly question I have is what size wheels do I have? The tires on there are 16.5 dia but apparently the PO ordered 17X9 Kelsey Hayes. Could 16.5in tires fit on a 17in rim? Where do I measure from since I assume going to the edge of the wheel lip wouldn't be right. Thanks in advance,

Never stretch 16.5 tires on a 17 rim. Never tried it, but saw plenty of major warnings not to.

hmmm....
guess that should make it a safe assumption that the rims are 16.5 unless the PO was a doofus, Thanks

Back in those years you had choice of 16" split rims or 16.5" high flotation tires standard rim factory rim were 16.5x6.75" . 3/4 ton trucks had the 7.50-16 or the 8.75-16.5 tires with the 9.50-16.5 tires as an option. As stated never mount 16.5 on 17 rims.

double checked
Thanks for the replies.
I double checked the glovebox door and I got the wording a bit wrong, it claims 17X6 Kelsey 8 Stud (opt Q23). It sounds like 17 must really mean 16.5 . Wonder why they'd do that. Greg |
