full chassis swap
Hi Guys... Newbie here. I have lurked on this board for a number of months and have recently obtained a 57 swb with a butchered chassis. I have read that using a 67-72 swb chassis is pretty easy by just changing the cab/radiator mounts and that a 71-72 is preferred because of stock disc brakes. I have also read that an S10 lwb can also be used. Has anyone done one of these conversions or does anyone have any constructive comments. Thanks in advance.

Re: full chassis swap
Hi don't know if this helps, but I have a 57 sb. step side that has ben suframed from a 74 1/2 that seem to work okay. It was done before I got the truck so do not know how hard it was to do? Has ft disc on it been told it was not very hard. Hope this helps.

Re: full chassis swap
I have a complete swb '74 under my '58. The spring hangers out back were moved forward a bit, blocks were installed on top of the front cab mounts, and the radiator support was setup accordingly. here

Re: full chassis swap
HAMB has an article on S10 swap but it's for a pre 55 truck, still may be helpful

Re: full chassis swap
Thanks to all that responded.... Guess I going to have to pick up a 67-72 factory assembly manual and do a lot of carefull measuring to see how everything lines up.

Re: full chassis swap
Here is a 55 on a 72. He used 4" riser blocks under the cab. He also ran the gas fill from the original filler all the way back to the fuel cell in the rear.

Cadman,
Thanks for the pics. Good detail of how the fenders were mounted. Ron |

Re: full chassis swap
A trick I did, using a 66 frame was simple. Instead of blocks and all the rigging use the frame brackets off the original frame on to the swapped frame for the cab and core support. Drill, grind/torch the ones off the donor frame, do the same for the original frame. Measure twice, drill new holes in the donor frame and use grade 8 bolts with lock tight. It looks much cleaner and works well.

Re: full chassis swap
How did the bed and cab line up when put on the 66 chassis. Did it sit higher on the frame? Was the width any problem?

Re: full chassis swap
I hate to bring up a old threat but I`m in a similar situation and would be interested in the info about the 66 frame as well.
