Poly or stock bushings?

I need a front end rebuild kit for my 70. Do I really need the poly bushings or can i use the aftermarket stock bushings? I dont drag race or anything or take corners hard or anything like that. Its mainly just a cruiser and burn some tires here and there. Also, what kit offers the most parts to rebuild a front end for the best price. Thanks alot guys.

I don't think anyone makes poly bushings for the front end rebuild on the 67-72 trucks yet.
I went through www.p-s-t.com when I rebuilt the front end on my 67 project, great company to work with

www.earlyclassic.com offers a rebuild kit, but it will run you more then the kit from PST.

Are you talking about the kit for $189. What all did this kit include. I know it says on the website, but its different for almost all of the applications and next to my application on their website, it doesnt say anything. I want all new bushings and components and I hope this kit offers it. Thanks 70C10

That is the kit. I believe I had to add outer tie rods.
When it came, there were no sleeves to connect the outer to inner tie rods, I picked up a set cheap at the local auto parts store.

Great kit, very simple installation. I'd buy it again

So, am I to understand that you ordered an "Original Performance" Front End Kit for Chevy '63-'72 from P-S-T, and it wasn't a polygraphite or polyurethane kit? OEM rubber type?

Also, NO ONE makes a polygrahite or polyurethane front control arm bushing kit for Chevy '63-'72? Or did one for '73+ happen to fit?

Thanks .... I'm looking to rebuild mine and want to do it right, the first time.

Correct, as of right now no one makes a polygraphite bushing rebuild kit for the 67-72 chevy trucks. I went with PST, which is very well known for its parts. I ordered the the kit as stated above for $189. It was an awesome kit. The only things I had to purchase extra were outer tie rod ends, and adjusting sleeves. The kit came with everything else. Let me tell ya, it makes one hell of a difference. Just make sure everything is greased and lubed and you'll love it. Ive heard good things and bad things about polygraphite, but nothing bad about rubber bushings. Its a great kit and I recommend it to ANYONE. Any more questions, feel free to ask.

It looks like they raised the price a bit to 199. But its the 63-72 kit and it is "Original Performance". Have fun!

I'd go with stock rubber bushings. I've got poly bushings in my front sway bar and no matter how much I lube it, the squeaks always come back. It's annoying. It sounds like my poor old truck has arthritis.....

On the 63-72 trucks the front control arm bushings are steel. No rubber or poly kit will fit on the stock control arms. If you want rubber or poly you have to change out your control arms to the 73+ arms.

which bushing is steel on the control arm that your talking about? The shaft with the front and rear cap that connects to the frame? The rubber kit I got from PST replaced both bushings and caps on the control arm shafts.

That's the ones I am talking about. Are you telling me that the PST kit replaced the steel bushings that "screw" together with a normal rubber bushing?

Yes, PST had those. Its the end caps for the shafts that the grease fitting screws into and the rubber bushing goes on the inside of the control arm.

I believe the rubber bushing you are refering to is the grease seal

But it's still a steel bushing, correct? It threads into both the control arm and onto the shaft when you are installing it, right?
