Kmart,JC Whitney,Western Auto...Cheap junk.
Back then, there were oversized tires in 16.5 before 15.So,the option was for 10.00x16.5s on 1/2tons.16.5s were the "new" diameter back then in the "Wide Ovals" era. They had a lower/wider profile than 16s,which were only available in tall skinny. Also, all wide tires from the factory back then were for extra load capacity, like campers or towing and were in 8-ply.So,to get the heavier load range, they went to 16.5s.

I thought the 16.5 wheelws were split rims.

My rig has 16 inch wheels, but I don't know how wide they are. They definately aren't as deep as those spares.

No,the 8.25" wide rims weren`t slit rims.They were just like the 8-lugs,but with 6-lugs.I actually had 8.25" front and 9.75" rear 5-lug 16.5 rims on a`72 CustomDeluxe/10.They weren`t factory,I bought them.They were Kelsey-Hayes,just like the ones available through GM on 4wds.

Where has this thread gone? Seemed pretty informative imo.

Arent most of the bone stock orig. parts etc etc trucks usually pretty "ugly" - i guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I'd doubt you'd be able to mount two 38" boggers on there tho. From the add I bet what's mounted on there now looks like the biggest tire you'd get on those "dual carriers".

I am picking up what you throwin' down tho
