Re: 69 body on a mid 80's frame

A lot of people "engineer" the donor body mounts. I have done a few frame swap and founf that using the frame mounts from the original frame on the donor frame works and looks better. Dril/torch/whatever the mounts off of both frames, measure a couple of times and drill and bolt the original frame ounts to the donor frame. Swapping for a later model frame for a 69 is fairly simple, lots of small details but pretty much a bolt together as far as steering, wiring etc. Use as many parts off the donor on your 69 as possible that way they are matched, especially the brake system.
I am in the process of using a 87 donor on my 67, I did not use the frame because mine was in good shape. I am using the master cy;inder booster/brake pedal assembly, the complete front cross member and suspension, engine/trans/drive shaft, wiring harness/steering column/wiper motor, cruise control, seat .
There is very interchangabilty on GM trucks thru the years.
Get out a tape measure and use it a couple of times before cutting/drilling etc and things will go well, also take your time.

Re: 69 body on a mid 80's frame

I'm actually going to do this to my 70 long box 2wd. I was going to do the subframe swap and rear axle swap from my 82 chevy, but my buddy talked me into swapping out the whole frame. Plus X=member will be the same for the 700r4 and get away from the 2 piece driveshaft.
