lower a arm bump stop removal?
hey guys,
i would like to remove my lower a arm bump stops on my 71 and since there are so many people slaming trucks around hear i figured someone on here would have some advice. here's what i'm wondering: am i going to have any issues with damaging my steering box via over steer exc? also what all is involved with removing the bump stops? is it something i can do with an air chisel or do i need to drill or use the torch? are there any othe implications with removing the bump stops? if it helps you answer my questions here's what i'm planning on: 1-2in drop springs with 1-2.5 in drop spindels. total drop will be around 3in. thanks guys, ondrew |

Re: lower a arm bunp stop removal?
I have a cut coil drop on my 69(approx 2-3" ), depends on who you talk with? At any rate, I cut the bump stops off, but left a portion of the steer stop, & reinforced the back side of it. I then used a set of traction bar snubbers for a new, but shorter bump stop. This seems to work fine at the drop you are talking......remember, that the spindle drop wont cause problems with the bump stops(just the spring drop). best of luck, L

Re: lower a arm bunp stop removal?
anyone else? my main concern is the steering and how the truck limits it. originaly the bump stops also acted as a steering limiter but i will need something to replace that function. is there a chance i could use a 4x4 steering box or possibly an aftermarket unit that has the steering limiter built in?

Re: lower a arm bump stop removal?
You can make your own steering stop. In the past I have used a threaded rod (all thread) connector and a bolt with a locking nut to create an adjustable steering stop. All your trying to accomplish is to prevent the steering from being turned full lock.

Re: lower a arm bump stop removal?
i would assume a big drop/slam but i could be mistaken. he could also be using a rack verses a steering box but i won't be doing that on this truck.
