Re: m22 4spd carnage (pics)
Well after looking around a little on the web, I found out that previous owner=1, me=0. It's not an m22 like he said it was , it's a run of the mill m21. M22's had straighter cut teeth than that. Guess I'm not so surprised now that it broke!

That sticks on the carnage.
Those gears aren't from a M22 "rockcrusher" though, the have to much angle in them.

Re: m22 4spd carnage (pics)
I've seen a a kit at a swap meet that you can change the gears on the M21 to make it a M22. Looks alike about time to get that kit.

The Tooth Ferry made a killing in that trans. Makes me want to second guess putting my M-21 behind my 500+ H.P. 396 C.I.

My M20 lasted 1 month the first time behind the old 385 and 3 months behind the vortec 350 being treated extremly easy [the second time at least ] Did the tranny run low on oil? Both times I've killed my M20 I've never hurt the gears...

Re: m22 4spd carnage (pics)
My buddy/co worker has a 70 GTO and it has a M21 and it still lives today. Motor has been rebuilt with larger cam and more compression and it handle all the gear banging and long smokey burnouts he can give it. I guess he's just lucky.

Re: m22 4spd carnage (pics)
Get the straight cut racing type gears of an m22 rockcrusher......It was said that with the straight cut gears clutching was really an option......POWERSHIFTING

Re: m22 4spd carnage (pics)
Sounds like you might have had happened what happened to me both times. The front bearing support in the aluminum case wears out and allows free play, causeing everything to come apart. I would suggest at least a supercase from 4speeds with the rebuild. Also, not sure why, but the muncie guru's say NOT to use synthetic oil in the muncies.
