PM Rod, he's the man when it comes to GMC VIN codes.
Here's a rough breakdown on GMC/Chevy differences: 67 Chevy/GMC fenders are the same, 68 Chevy/68-72 GMC fenders are the same (basically same as 67 except 67 is the only yr without sidemarker lights). 69-72 Chevy fenders are the same. 67-68 Chevy/GMC Hoods are basically the same. 69-72 Chevy/GMC hoods are basically the same. I don't know about core supports, hood latch supports etc.
