1/2 cab

Has anybody tried taking a full top and chopping it down and making their own 1/2 cab. I'm considering this. I need a new top anyway and I'm thinking the old top would be a great start at an attempt for a 1/2 cab.

If anyone has tried this I'd love to see pics.

This is exactly what I'll be doing right before it gets cold in October. I have all but given up on finding a half cab for sale.

Re: 1/2 cab

I've seen a few pics in the past of what appeared to be a cut down top. Make sure you round off the back, otherwise it is ugly lookin'.

Yes. Very flemsy if you leave it open in the back. Would be hard to enlcose and hard to get rid of the flat back. I threw one away after I got my real half cab. It was pretty ugly.

Re: 1/2 cab

I would leave the back open, I'm mostly curious how they get around the roll bar.

How it would get around the roll bar? Same as a full top if the back is left open.

So with a real 1/2 cab the roll bar comes out?

Don't think so, I think it stops right in front of it

Re: 1/2 cab

When i bought my half cab, it came with a custom roll bar that fits inside cab. Weird looking and in storage for now. Not sure what to do with it It sits just behind seats and
as a center bar that goes up overcenter of cab and bolts to window frame. It is well built, so I thought for sure it was possibly from mfg of half cabs. Has anyone seen something like this(sorry no pic today) before?

Re: 1/2 cab

You have to move a stock Rollbar back to clear the real half cab.

The blue one doesn't look like all the others I've seen. The back isn't rounded like the cab of a pickukp.

The orange truck, although very nice, is a photoshop slam job. (the top looks real)

That last Blazer looked right, more pics from different angles so I can replicate that look. It is the best one I've seen so far. Please, please Jim

I'll try to get some good pics for your this evening. I have it off the blazer so it is easy to get some good angles for you. The roll bar that goes with it is in storage so I can't get pics of it though.

I don't have a roll bar yet, so I can work around the top. Sorry to copy the top but when it looks right.... Oh well you get the idea. I have pics of the original 1/2 top so I can work off of both Thanks Jim

Re: 1/2 cab

Buy yourself a real half-cab. I've built one before and it's alot of work. You also have to put pu doors on or alot more fabrication. Rick

I don't doubt that plenty of us would buy a "real half-cab" if we could...

If i could even find one for sale I'd look at it, but building one seems to be the only option. I've yet to even see one for sale anywhere. Buddy of mine just got one for his bronco and he looked for over 3 yrs.

Re: 1/2 cab

I saw two for sale last year hear in northern california. One was on ebay and sold around $400+ if i remember correctly. The other sold for appx $150...buyer? me

The seller was this college student who had a 72 blazer. She did not want all "this stuff" on the blazer so she posted a half cab, roll bar for the half cab, rear swing out tire holder and the bulkhead for the half cab....got it all for $400 Gotta love craigslist

Don't understand the need for pickup doors as my hardtop already fits my Jimmy, I just want to cut the back half off and move it forward. I just need it for the winter time, after that its all topless!!! Thanks Jim
