How-To Series
We are working with a production company that is wanting to do a complete How-To series on restoring these trucks.... Not work being done on other vehicles that you can try to cross that information with our trucks, but actual work on the 67-72 Chevy/GMC Trucks!!! I have reviewed the first video called Restoring 67-72 doors to perfection and it is great!! This will be the first of several video tapes offered by Classic Heartbeat Pickup Parts. Sound like a great idea! How about a tape on rebuilding the front suspension? ( disc and drums hehe ) I can't wait.

I'd like to see some common modifications/customizations, like airbag suspension, shaved drip rails, exhaust systems. It would sure help alot of owners who think many of these things are beyond their capabilities.

Yeah...the FAQ on this board like:
How to change from manual to power steering. Flip tailight gas cover trick. Removing front clip. Changing from 6 to 5 lug with disc brakes. Gas tank relocation and what gas tanks can fit. With related shaving gas filler in cab. Installing tilt column and what tilts can fit. Installing aftermarket A/C. Converting from column to floor shift or from manual to auto. Replacing cab corners/rocker panels. Maybe do some history like color schemes/options/engines with horsepower numbers. Reupholstering or changing out the bench seats. Hmmm....sounds like my list of things to do...lol. Are you guys doing a ground up resto? How much for the set of tapes? Thats all I can think of now. jay

I am still working on the details for prices and etc. I am hoping to keep them below $20.00 to $25.00 per tape. I want to make sure there is a good amount of content in them. Example... This first tape shows you how to fix rust holes in the lower outside skin, also it shows you how to reassemble the door..... I would like it to show the dissasembly and also how to replace the inner door bottom also. All I will be able to do is suggest to the production company though, but ultimately its their call. Need a video on repairing rust in hard to reach and common places.
I think videos would be a great!!!!! They will sell like crazy. It would be nice to have a video on rust repair of the fresh air inlets below the cowl and behind the firewall and other hard to reach places.
I know this is a common area of cancer. So a video would help a ton. Ben |

Excellent idea! Yeah, replacing commonly rusted out panels: cab corners, rockers, cab supports, lower doors, floorboards, etc. Wes, you keep emphasising detail, and I think that's what the majority of board members want. Pursue this issue, it's got real potential.

How about identifying the differences between the different years. For example, the different grilles, parking brakes,rear view mirror mounts, door panels, etc. That would save some people a lot of trouble at the junkyards(or someone new to the trucks). Also a segment showing the different options would be very interesting, such as the speedwarning dash, the Highlander package, bucket seats with console, etc. I know most of them, but I think it would help a lot of people.

Electrical system trouble shooting proceedures would be a good episode. How to use a meter [for dummies]. What to do when the truck won't start. How to check for shorts or opens in the lines. What if it won't charge? How to check your external voltage regulator and adjust output. Advanced stuff like HEI conversions, or one-wire alternators, power windows and door locks, external power supplies [AC, solar], auxilliary batteries.

I think the rust repair/bodywork one would be great.Maybe a tape/CD on generic bodywork(for a larger audience) and a companion tape/CD for specifics to these trucks.This would help keep production costs down.
The front suspension rebuild and tranny swaps would be good, as would a wiring guide.Also since no one has mentioned it a motor and motor mount swap/fitment guide could be helpful. Glass installation,interior fit and finish tips,and weatherstripping including glass and 'burb windows and doors. OK WES-5 you axed for input.

The closest thing I've seen done for these trucks was Early Classic Enterprises restification of a '68, that was chronicled in "Classic Trucks" magazine (Jan-Dec '01).
So, this is welcome news and will be a great asset. Your initiative is appreciated and the hope is that the tapes will be all that people are looking for them to be. Great suggestions on topics, so no reason for me to add to the list.

Wes I have wanted to do that for a long time but never chased it. I think a video of parts interchange for our year trucks would be great. Also any bodywork on the cabs would be helpful . I hope you can keep it going,great job Kd

Concentrate on the restoration/repair jobs at first. Then work on mods. And, if you're going to do lowering, also do lifting--it's getting harder to find lift systems for these older trucks.

Well the door repair video is ready now. It's pretty good and just over 30 mins long. I have talked to the producers and I am donating parts to hurry the process along and I think the next tape will cover Rockers and door pillars. Meanwhile you can purchase this tape now. I wish I had a video of showing how to lift a '67 4x4 without using blocks,nobody has a leaf spring lift for the rear (wider springs I guess is the prob or lack of demand) and also axle swaps as I have a Eaton 10 bolt with 4.57 and would like something more drivable,so a swapping in a leaf axle on a coil truck,or even newer axles. The mods I would like to see would be shaved door handles,roll pans,and smooth tailgates.KD
