Bolt Question
First of all Happy fathers day to all the fathers! Second, I made this post this morning and it ended up in the suburban forum--maybe I was still asleep. Lastly, my brother-in-law and family are coming to visit me on Thursday. No its not a bad thing as he is my good brother-in-law and I have known him longer than my wife. AS most of you know I live in Japan and only have access to metric bolts and he has agreed to go to one of the major hardware stores in Colorado Springs to pick up a few things for me.
1. I need to know what size and length of carriage bolts that hold the body to the frame, as I have new body mounts and the rears are bent, and the radiators are rusted. 2. What size bolts hold the double wall top to the bedside. 3. What size bolts or screws??? hold the arm supports to the rear hatch and double wall top. 4. What size are the carriage bolts that hold the front bumper on. This info would be greatly appreciated, as I don't get many visitors and its a pain to get things shipped. |

Re: Bolt Question
that is a tough question, use 5/16"x1" coarse thread sheet metal bolts for your top to bedrail. and get a tap set and chase your threads everytime you remove your top. bumper bolts are universal, auto parts store help section. junk yard from almost any vehicle with a stamped sheet metal bumper. metric equivalents will work for your body mount carraige bolts as long as you get metric nuts. the bolts are different sizes at each location and most are welded to the floor of the truck. there are at least 3 body mount bolts that are fubar on every chevy truck. the bolts that support the hatch are 1/4-20x3/4" with a phillips head and a flat seat. i can't remember the specific designation for this type of screw head. just tear it apart and reassemble with what you have locally. that's the beauty of these old trucks, they are simple. tell the people in charge of weights and measures in japan to adopt our imperial system and to import bolts based on fractions of whatever inches are? the metric system is for people who aren't very good at math, SI units are so boring. i will never adopt them.
