Question about Dynamat

Hey all of you out there that have laid down Dynamat, how much material did it take? I am going to do from the back of the seat area where the tank used to be, all the way up to the bottom of the windshield behind the dash.

Any of you have any good experience with other brand sound deadening material?

I only have the inside of the doors to shoot, then I will be finished with painting the inside of the cab. Before I start laying out the new painless wiring kit, I want to fit the whole inside with sound deadening.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Re: Question about Dynamat

Not sure exactly why the mods moved this from the 67-72 message board area...I would have put it here if I thought is was body and paint question...Oh well, they know best so I don't argue.

Just looking to see how much material I need to get or if Dynamat is not the way to go.

Re: Question about Dynamat

Mike, I'm starting to researth this subject myself. Looks like some pretty good deals on ebay, but watch the wording. Some will try to use catchy words & phrases to make you think you are getting Dynamat. I'll keep an eye on this thread, I want to do about the same thing. Good luck & a TTT!

Re: Question about Dynamat

This may not help but i just did the doors on my 68 gmc. I used the door kit from Dynamat which consisted of 4 pieces and was 12 sq ft. Two pieces fit almost perfectly in each door and only required a small amount of trimming. I paid way too much and would suggest to purchase off of ebay or directly from the manufacturer if possible. I'm planning to at least do the cab floor when I get a new carpet set hopefully by end of summer... good luck.

Re: Question about Dynamat

last time i did it it seemed to take like 4 boxes ( i had two sheets left over)to do the floor from the seam on the floor boards (under your feet) to the backside of the cab I thing there was 4 sheets per box.(12x12)I got mine from the local paint supplier and probably paid a little more than other places I also used a heat gun to help form around the hump but don't think it really is neccessary

Re: Question about Dynamat

Looks like the Dynamat Extreme stuff comes in 10"x10" or 18"x32" pieces from the manufacturer and retails for $7-8 a square foot depending on how much you buy. Is that right?!

Re: Question about Dynamat

I used just under 70 sq feet when I did the cab floor, roof, below the rear window, and entire firewall on my 73...yours should take about the same.

Nice write up, have you driven the truck since the install? If so, how did it work? I guess Brown Bread has been replaced by B-Quiet Ultimate.

Thanks for the reply, very informative.

Re: Question about Dynamat

Well after careful consideration I have decided to go with B-Quiet Ultimate. It seems very close in comparison to Dyanamat but get more for your $$$. B-Quiet has 60 mil material compared to 67 mil with Dynamat. Both stick very well and have high heat protection. With B-Quiet I can get 50 sq ft for right at $120 shipped whereas Dynamat would be 36 sq ft at about the same price shipped (on Ebay). I will be buying 2 50 sq ft kits to do the entire interior including the doors, kick panels and the side pockets of the cab corners, should be "vewy, vewy quiet"

Thanks for your help on this guys, I will let you know the results as I find them out.

Thanks, I ordered on 50 sq ft kit from him early last week, should get it soon. Right now funds are a bit low with my current situation. That much will allow me to do under the dash and down to about the middle of the floor (I am guessing) so I can start installing the brackets and things that go on the firewall. Also, it will allow me to start putting in my Painless Wiring kit (YEAH!!).

I will order the 2nd kit sometime in the next 2 weeks to finish up the inside. I am also debating on getting the Dynamat pad that goes on the floor or firewall for even more sound deadening, plus it will give cushion for under the carpet.

Re: Question about Dynamat

Mike, I haven't driven the truck yet...but I have no doubt it will be quieter based on how the stuff applied and based on others testimonials.

Good luck and take some pics for us.
