Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
What are peoples experiences with Goodyear Wrangler MTRs. A couple of tire shops have tried to talk me out of them. (claim they are to soft and will wear fast).
I would like to here from those who have or had them.

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
I had them on my 2000 GMC and LOVED them. They worked great in the mud, snow and especially the ice. They are a little loud but I did not mind. I would also look into the Toyo Open Country M/T's. Here is a link http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/off_road/opmt.html.
I had a set of these on my 04 Chevy and LOVED them as well. These were also fantastic in the mud, snow and ice. They were a quiet for how agressive they are. |

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
MTRs are great! Those tire guys are f.o.s.They are the "BEST" on/off-road tire made.Opinions abound, but I have never had a tire that is as good as this off-road that doesn`t give up a thing on-road.I`ve had 35s on my`91 K/2500 Diesel Suburban for two years. The 6' space behind the second seat is loaded with carpentry tools all the time, unless I need to haul something bigger. It is my primary vehicle and I put 400-500 miles a week on it.I use it on and off road.It road real sweet last fall down to Charlotte and back.I got optimum fuel economy as well. They have worn exceptionally even although I haven`t stayed on top of a good rotation regiment.I`ve been through grabbing caliper problems that were neglected until I could fix them,I had a front wheel bearing a bit loose for a while before I fixed it,it has a locker in the rear,no wear noticed.I love them.

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
goodyear tires allow for very little markup for the dealer they use them to get people into the store then steer them to other more profitable brands

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
A guy I used to work with had them on his Durango, he got great mileage out of them for how he drove. He was constantly popping curbs, peeling out (in reverse, the little 4.7l couldn't do forward burnouts) and attempting to drift around corners. He had almost 40k miles on the tires and had about 6-7/32" tread left, and he finally blew the headgasket and the truck sat in the shop where I believe it still is. Because of how he drove though, they wore very unevenly, got out of balance constantly, and howled really badly on the road.

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
I personally haven't used them but on the Wrangler Forum ( yes i have a Jeep ) everyone seems to love them ,they come stock on the Rubicon , although some say they wear quickly , and like to be rotated regularly . I'm planning on a set for the TJ .

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
I want them for my XJ,too.I`d love to find some Rubicon take-off wheels & tires.I agree with CDowns, they push the cheap stuff, probably don`t stock the MTRs,Most tire counter guys are "bucking" for commission. These tires are the only true-offroad enthusiast tire sold as factory equipment. That should say something.Swampers are awesome, but don`t hold your breath waiting for them to be on a lot truck.Yeah yeah,BFG A/Ts come on some, but what if there`s mud?

Re: Opinions on Goodyear Wrangler MTR's
I ordered a set of 37x11.50x15 from a wholesale shop in Florida and ran them on my Z-71 forever. I loved them. They balanced out well and wore pretty evenly. Could have been a little quieter on the interstate, but heck...it was a 4X4...so.....
