Door help

Was working on my truck project tonight. My passenger door fits awfully. The top of the vent window hits the window frame, the top/back of the door is gapped, space is even across the top and bottom of the door, but the rear lower corner is tight and the body lines are 1/4" lower then the ones on the cab. If I raise the door to meet the body lines, i lift the door into the gutter. If I move it back to clear the vent window, I hit the lower rear corner. If I tip the door to fit the front and back, the upper and lower edges are crooked.

Any ideas? I'm thinking I'll have to shave part of the door at the vent window for clearance, then cut the cab to even out the rear gap. Not sure what to do about the body lines.

Re: Door help

Have you done any work to the cab as far as rockers or corner panels? If not take a look at where your hinge bolts the door side of the truck. These chevy trucks are known to crack around the hinges making it near impossilbe to line the door up correctly because it is not firm in that area making a sagging problem for ever. Also check for slack in your door hinge pins by lifting the bottom rear of the door while open to check for slack there. You will need no slack to even get started aligning the door. Also remove the door striker plate on the cab side while adjusting and then reinstall once your door is aligned. Good luck.

Re: Door help

Yes theres work done. But the problem seems to be the door frame is parallelogrammed. In other words the verticals are parallell and the horizontals are parallel, but they arent square with each other. So I can either line up the front and back, or the top & bottom(that is if there was enough space) and then the other 2 seems will be angled. It looks like I'm going to have to do some cutting and reshaping of the door opening and the door itself. Pity the next guy who has to replace the door.

Re: Door help

Is your work area flat ? Are all the tires same size side to side and pumped up ? How are the cab mounts ?T hey will tweak the cab if it they are bad. I would be tempted to get a jack and a 2x4 and tweak the cab back into shape, can't "officially" recommend that though.

Re: Door help

Just went out and worked/looked at it again. It's definately been parallellogrammed. Need to borrow dad's portapower.. see if i can push it back about a 1/4" then the frame should come back into shape. Drivers side looks ok. There's been some damage on the pass windshield frame. It's hit something up there and pushed it back.
