axle splines?
I am toying with the idea of changing out my 72 chevy rearend for a 9 inch with a posi. I have a leaf spring rearend so the mounts will be fairly easy. What's the deal with the spline count? Is one better than the other? 28,31,35?
Thanks. Doug |

Re: axle splines?
I'm just curious. why does everyone want to swap to a 9 inch? the chevy 14 bolt is much stronger, not to mention it's a chevy part lol

Re: axle splines?
its lighter... and in the aftermarket world you can build that 9 inch to handle well over 1000hp and ft lbs of torque for less money. plain and simple they were a better built and engineered rear end... and by the way against the right factory ford 9 inch, one with nodular iron third member and the higher number of spline axles i really doubt the 14 bolt is any stronger if at all..
i am a chev diehard. but i also love my drag racing.. and in racing you go with what works. and the ford nine has been proving that in the drag, stock car field for years.... |

Re: axle splines?
add to that the fact that if you want a weekday ratio for commutin and a weekend ratio for performance you can change the center sections out in less than an hour
