Exhaust Compatibility
I plan to put a tbi motor from a 95 Chevy truck into my 80 Chevy truck. The question i have is: will the exhaust (Manifolds, Muffler, & Piping) bolt right in? My current exhaust is rusted through and falling apart everywhere and i can get the exhaust with the engine. Funds are low and this is a low-cost alternative to getting a new exhaust. Anybody got answers or done this?

Re: Exhaust Compatibility
the manifolds should bolt to the heads, but i'm not sure on mounting ac alternator and stuff.
as far as i know, the rest of the exhaust will not bolt up at all. |

Re: Exhaust Compatibility
I think he is talking about using the 95 exhaust in the 80. Both manifolds will bolt up to the engine. But Im not sure about the 80s manifolds and the 95s engine dipstick that is on the passenger side will clear with them or not. That is around the time that gm moved the engine dipstick from the driver side to the passenger side.

Will the exhaust bolt up using universal hangers?

Re: Exhaust Compatibility
A buddy was just showing me these really nice headers he had bought. These were meant to replace you factory manifolds and bolt to your existing exhaust.
They were chrome with about the thickest flanges I had ever seen. And cheap too! So I said get me a set of those too. He says no go, they are only for 88+ trucks because of clearnace on the frame. He said that the later model manifolds won't clear the frame on the 73-87 trucks with out cutting on the frame which didn't seem worth it. He is a pretty knowledgable guy when it comes to the trucks.
