What's it worth? (4x4 TH350)
I've got a buddy bugging me to unload the stock TH350 out of my '72 4x4, and I'm inclined to sell it, but I don't want to have one of those 'DOHHH' experiences after I part with it. The trans has been sitting for a while, and would more than likely need to be completely gone through (although it was working just fine when I took it out). Any thoughts on what it's worth? Thanks in advance!

I would swap you a SM465 with 205 transfer case for it.... Maybe some different parts..... Let me know if you are interested. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

'72 Cheyenne Super........I would guess that the value would be comparable to any good used TH350.....$100 to $200. The only difference between a 4wd and a 2wd is the output shaft and the bolt on tail housing.
Wes......too bad you are so far away.....I would yank my rebuilt, 1900 stall, TCI shift kit TH350 for a SM465/NP205 set-up any day.

When I went to rebuild my transmission and discovered that my case was cracked, the guy at Kirkland Transmission said that he charges $450 for a true 4wd TH350 "K" case, if he could even find one. I shopped around and I bought a core at Olympic 4x4 in Snohomish for $125 with a "K" case. I saw a "K" case for sale on CK5 for $300 with the flywheel cover. If the thing needs rebuilding, your really just looking at selling it as a core, maybe a few parts, it is worth in the $125-$450 range. I'd say that Wes is offering you a pretty fair deal.

Thanks for the responses! Wes, I don't have a need for the SM465 or the NP205 (although, I would like to build a stout transfer case for my truck someday, without having to pull mine out and wait for it to be overhauled before it's back on the road again). I might try to hook up with you in the near future to see what you have for swapping. I still need some things for my '72.

Well if you are looking to change to a manual transmission in your truck the input shaft for your 205 is different as is the adapter for it. You can get a replacement sleeve from advanced adapters thow also and a new adapter also. WES www.classicHeartbeat.com

Wes, I'm not looking to change anything in my truck, as far as drivetrain goes (see my sig). That's the reason I'm not in the market for trannies/transfer cases. But, I do need to get down to Oly to support a board member!

The 4x4 cases are slightly different than a 2wd case. They are thicker at the bell-housing bolt holes and have a full aluminium fly wheel cover. It should have a big "K" on the side of the bell-housing. 2wd cases can be used in a 4wd if you change the the output shaft. I have heard that most of the rebuilts on the market are 2wd cases converted. It might be hard to sell for a lot of $ unless someone is specifically looking for a "K" case. I would try selling it on ColoradoK5 or Pirate4x4.
