just bought a 79
hello every body,
well im new to this forum, and to the truck. well let me first tell you what i bought before i start asking questions. its a 79 gmc short bed pick-up that i picked up for a messly 450 bucks, with a 305 v8,(now i have put a new intake, carb, wires, and plugs, starter, and battery, im also going to get a new disturibter, and HEI coil this week) but the motor looks to have been rebuilt, but i could be wrong, but i dont know many people that would pull a motor just to paint it, but like i said i could be wrong. its been slightly tubbed maybe four to six inchs all the way around, it also has a lowering kit on it, with drop spinndles and lowering blocks, the motor and trans are number matching. it also has grey tweed int. all the way through, door's and all. when i bought the truck it was yellow and black, kinda like a big bummble bee. but it had quiet lot of rust under the body kit, but most has been fixed. so now its primer grey. i just need a little help trying to figure out a few minor problems. that just are racking my head . well to start the wiring of the truck was a big load of crap, and just want to know where would be the best place to get a good wiring diagram at. i've tried the whole haynes and chiltions, but they didnt help me, oohh by the way i suck at wiring anything up that doesnt say connect harness A to harness B, if it doesnt im screwed, and not in the fun way . well thats the first of quiet a few questions, that i'll be tring to get help with from you guys, and any help would be a lot of help for me. like i said im new to the truck. and you guys know more than i do about them so why not ask the ppl that know. thanks josh p.s. here are a few pictures for ya'll |

Re: just bought a 79
Welcome to the board. Looks like a great project truck you have there. On the engine I would look up the block and head numbers to verify it being a 305 since like you mentioned it could have been rebuilt. This will tell you more on the engine setup if factory or what heads and block they used when rebuilding it. On the wiring diagram I got all my books etc. on Ebay. They have some good stuff on there cheap that you can use to help out on the wiring etc.
