Re: 383 stroker
Hi ..nice looking engine. How does it have 12-1 compression ratio with flat top pistons?

Re: 383 stroker
The heads are milled down to 58cc. The engine builder calculated the compression ratio.

That looks like a hell of a deal. Someday I will have a stroker.

Re: 383 stroker
anybody have estimates on what kind of HP and torque for this?
this probably won't work in a 89 suburban w/ TBI with the stock computer or would it?? |

Re: 383 stroker
Stock computer would need to be tuned to get the most out of the engine. Sometime in the late 80's GM tapped a hole in the water jacket of the blocks for a knock sensor. If this engine isn't tapped for a knock sensor (probably not) then you couldn't use one, and the computer would throw a code unless you had that system disabled. That sensor is part of the ignition control system.

Wow! That's a screaming deal. Those heads are worth most of that $2000 asking price.

Re: 383 stroker
Guys,
I'm in Houston and am looking to build a 383 for my '89 Suburban but wanted to use pump gas. Do I have any options here? Would it be worth getting this to reuse any of the parts? I assume if the heads are ground down, then I'm not going to be able to get 9.5:1 or so, right? Sorry for the dumb questions. |

Re: 383 stroker
The short block has flat top pistons. Heads with 72-76cc would net you 87 octane friendly. I imagine you could buy the engine and sell the heads easy enuff to but a set with bigger chambers.
For a lower compression engine the cam would be a little on the big side. It is just right for 12-1. Anyways, you couldn't build this engine for 2000.00

Re: 383 stroker
You definitly can't build this engine for 2 grand (trust me) and It will need racing gas. Shipping will probably be 300+ dollars.

Re: 383 stroker
I also live in DP i have the yellow and red trucks. I have never seen your truck. Do you still have the engine for sale? I will only run on race fuel right? How much for the engine?
